Question about 1997 Volkswagen Jetta

2 Answers

I was having problems getting my 1997 jetta to start in the mornings, after getting it jumped, it would be okay. I replaced the battery and was having no problems. On Christmas Day, I didn't start it at all and it sat all day and all night..now, it won't start again. It has a new starter that was replaced 6 months ago. What could it be?

THERE MAY BE SOMETHING DRAINING YOUR BATTERY. A LIGHT UNDER THE HOOD OR IN THE TRUNK, IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT, OR A RELAY MAY BE STUCK. ARE YOU SURE ALL THE INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE GOING OFF CORRECTLY. TO CHECK FOR A BATTERY DRAIN,TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH & ALL OTHER SWITCHES, CLOSE ALL DOORS TIGHT REMOVE THE NEGATIVE BATTERY CABLE, CONNECT ONE END OF A WORKING 12 VOLT TEST LIGHT TO THE NEG. CABLE THAT WAS REMOVED FROM THE BATTERY, CONNECT THE OTHER END TO THE NEG. BATTERY POST. IF THE LIGHT COMES ON & STAYS ON THERE IS A BATTERY DRAIN OF SOME KIND. IF THE LIGHT GOES OUT AFTER A FEW SECONDS, OR DOESN'T COME ON AT ALL, THAT SHOULD BE O.K.

Pontiac Sunfire 1997. Won't start.

When jumped off ,if it drags to start, have the starter checked, and if when jumping the car off,the starter turns the engine over real good, then the cables are most likely the problem, replace them.

This morning I came out to start my 96 jetta and the battery seemed dead. So I began the process of getting a jump and as soon as we connected the jumper cables to the jetta the alarm started going off. We...

The immobilizer feature was tripped when the alarm went off. It sounds like the battery was indeed dead. My Nissan 300ZX used to trip the alarm when I jump-started it, although my Audi A4 does not. When the alarm is going off, you have to disarm it with the key or key fob first, or you won't be able to start it. Try putting the key in the door, lock it, unlock it, lock it again, and unlock it again, just to make sure you get a couple of arm/disarm cycles, then try starting it.

what you seem to have is a relay is bad in the junction box. this operates the fuel pump solenoid. the easy way to check this is remove the a/c clutch relay and switch it with the fuel pump solenoid your vehicle should fire. after you jump it. the yellow fuse is for eic the electronic ignition controle module. seeing is you just had it worked on take it back to mechanic and have hime fix it right. after all you payed for it so they should get it right
