Question about Dodge Stratus

Open Question

My 2004 Dodge stratus sxt has been making a rattling noise so i took it in to see what the problem was, and they told me its a bad a/c compressor. I cannot afford to replace it, and have obviously not been using it but my power steering belt also runs over the compressor and makes the noise. Is there a way to bypass the a/c altogether with a different belt? And how do I find the proper belt to do this for my car if there is? My car has been running fine not using the a/c but today it squealed and stalled twice before staying started, and I suspect this is the cause?

not sure if they make a bypass pulley for yours but Dorman company makes a pulley and bracket that replaces the compressor for many different vehicles. You can use the same belt and nothing else is changed. you do need to remove the compressor though.

The diagnosis sounds suspect to me.

The first thing I would do is to change the old serpentine belt and re-check for noise. It's not expensive and it's easy to do. It is possible the noise is being created solely by the belt rather than the Aircon pulley. Noisy belts can create all kinds of noises and sometimes they can sound like a mechanical rattle. In damp and cold weather belts can become particularly noisy.

When your aircon is off the aircon compressor is not operating and the aircon pulley is spinning without doing any work. If there is a noisy pulley it could just as easily be coming from an idler pulley which is cheap and easy to replace.

Whether you can get a belt that fits and bypasses the aircon pulley depends on which engine you have fitted. In any event I would be doing further checks on the cause of the noise before looking at a bypass option.

SOURCE: My 2004 Dodge Stratus Makes a Whining/Squealing Noise When Idling

With your Stratus idling, look under the hood. You should be able to find the source of the noise. It could be the belt or something driven by the belt

I have 2005 I changed the starter and battery good but it still won't start

First does it crank, if it does then check to see if the fuel injectors are getting fuel.....could be a fuel pump...

second....if there is nothing when you turn the key and the battery is good and the starter was replaced...it could be a bad ground.....thats the ground coming off your battery and goes to your chassis of the car.........let me know how you make out.

My 2004 dodge neon sxt makes a loud grinding and rattling noise when i accelerate. the car is vibrating

I had the same problem with a Saturn I had and I would check the motor mount. If its coming loose it can damage a lot of other things costing more than what you would need.
