The problem that I came across with dodge caravan is that the transmission cooler is inside the radiator and it deteriorates to the point that the antifrise enters in the transmission. If the oil is the coller of strawberry ice cream.dont look any ferther. The trans will not last to long, the antifreeze deteriorates the clutches.the trans will probably have to be rebuilt. Solution:get an external trans filter then plug the cooling lines at the rad.

How do i replace the coolant in my 96 dodge caravan after i flush the system

Make sure all the drains are closed, start filling the rad and allow the coolant time to drain down, then fill again. Keep filling the rad unit it no longer drains down, just make sure to stop filling it when the level in the rad is just barely visible when looking down inside it. Now fill the overflow bottle to the lowest level mark. Start the car and turn you heater on to full heat. Let it warm up to proper temp, may/may not need to put more in rad. Keep an eye on the level in the rad it will expand and may overflow, if it looks like it will overflow use yout tester to remove some fluid. Once you see the coolant flowing throug the rad wait a few minutes, then put the rad cap on. Let it run a few more minutes to get the rest of the air out, then drive like normal. Check the fluid level in the overflow bottle (engine cold) over the next few days fill to proper level as needed.

2005 Jeep Liberty 3.7L overheating

it's overheating, for sure,
is coolant levels dropping? cold checked at rad cap?
"pulled over and found a hose to cool the radiator and hose near the thermostat,"
i can not understand this statement"above"
if it overheat only parked, check fan for full ops.
if overheats moving too, wont stay cool moving fast
then:
bad rad cap
bad thermostat , they have 7 year life says STANT. (and why)
belts slipping (to water pump)
rad cores blocked (IR thermo gun it) ask
water pump impellers rust 1/2 gone?

all this assumes no coolant loss, if you have loss, tell where.,
where it leans
ground
passengers toes (foot well)
engine oil pan? milky oil
if A/T TRANS, check it for milky too.

Hi i own a 1998 dodge grand caravan and the problem i have is that i fill the rad up and all the water comes out of the over flow draining the rad. can you please help me? thanks wendy

not good wendy, most likely cause is a blown cylinder head gasket, but have someone check to make sure the thermostat is opening( if you let the engine idle for around 10min the top radiator hose will get hot when the thermostat opens if the engine overheats before the top hose gets hot then replace the thermostat) if the thermostat is poening then supect the head gasket.

I have a 1991 corsica and was wanting to change the coolant can you tell me where the drain plug is.

Many cars don't have a drain plug, and even if there was one, I wouldn't touch it, because they often break or strip out. Simply remove the lower rad hose from the radiator, and let the coolant drain out. Then, leaving the hose disconnected, remove the heater hose leading to the engine at the engine intake manifold end. Shove a garden hose into the end of the heater hose, and flush thoroughly with water until the stuff running out of the lower rad hose runs clear. Then, reconnect both hoses, and slowly pour in a gallon of pure coolant (not 50/50), as it will mix with the water left in the engine block. When the rad is full or nearly full, start vehicle and, leaving rad cap off, allow it to reach operating temp (upper rad hose will get hot, and coolant level in rad will drop). With engine idling, (important!) VERY SLOWLY pour the rest of the coolant in, and any additional coolant mixed 50/50 with water, until the rad is full. Cap it, and then fill the overflow bottle to the FULL HOT mark, or close to the top if no mark is found. You're done!

I have 97 dodge caravan 3.0 and i put in a brand new radiator and thermostat. Now the cooling fans dont come on and fluid is bubbling up and coming out of the reservoir. But if I unplug the temp. sensor...

Not unusual to get big airlock if heater (not defrost) isn't on during bleeding process. I usually start vehicle, top up rad 1 " or so from top, turn heater on , then watch temperature gauge & wait for fan to come on after I see flow through rad indicating thermostat opened.(Normal operating temperature)I let it do that about 3 times before I put rad cap back on, after topping rad up to about an inch or 2 from top. Then fill coolant return bottle, to proper level. It may be your problem, but if your temperature gauge goes way up past normal operating temperature, before you see flow in rad, then maybe a faulty thermostat is the cause.

Coolant level drops, not visible in oil, no leaks on grd, changed thermostat, rad cap, did flush and refill, no heat at any RPM.Also, during the last 2 days it insists on red lining the temp guage when...

did you drain coolant before you changed the thermostat? If you did and you just filled up directly after, the system didn't get bled. You have to have vehicle running with radiator cap off, then fill and let it run through, fill more and more until it doesn't get any lower anymore, you can also gently squeeze the radiator hose when pouring coolant in also helps bleed the system.
To properly fill and bleed the raidiator and coolant system, should actually take about 10 - 15 minutes.

When you first pour fluid in it will go to top of radiator or reservoir, then it will slowly drain into engine block, then you add more and patiently wait for it to drain in engine block, keep doing this until the entire system is full and level no longer drops.

Radiator

fill your radiator up, let the vehicle warm up and then shut the engine off. Look for the leak it could be a number of things check hoses, radiator, or the heator core inside the vehicle a strong flashlite and small adjustable mirror helps. Other items to check are waterpump, engine block freeze plugs, also check your oil if it appears milky you could have a blown head gasket.
