I'm assuming you have a manual on this one: Your clutch may have gone out. This would not allow it to be put in first gear. Check to see if you can work around the gears with the engine off. If so, most likely the clutch has gone out, in either the throwout bearing, or the master clutch cylinder.

My 2005 Suzuki Fore za will not go into gear. starts and sounds fine. won't let me put it in gear.

if this is a standard trans. the clutch slave cyl. may be at fault. if this is a standard trans. the shift interlock may be at fault. this can be bypassed by using a key located left of your shifter stick in console models.or loosen the console and manually disconnect the device.

first i would contact ford dealershift to see if any recalls with this problem...The transmission on the 2002 Ford Focus has been having problems shifting gears,The linkage inside the transmission suffers from premature wear, causing difficulty in switching or shifting gears. The transmission bands that wrap around each gear to hold the gears in place are becoming loose, causing the gears to shift harshly. Both problems have been the biggest culprit when the Ford Focus transmission experiences problems shifting gears. The only correction for this shifting problems is to have the transmission replaced or rebuilt.

My Hyundai Tibruon 2001 does not shifts any gear :( I just put new automatic transmission, because it had gear shifting problem. after putting new fluid, i guess I put to much. can it cause this issue?...

removing excess oil will be a good start to see if you have a problem. Excess oil causes over heating of the oil and over pressure in the tranny or frothing of the oil which lowers operating pressures in the tranny

My 99 z24 cavalier standerd shift it will not shift into 3rd gear

The gear may be stripped, can't catch other gear, have you been grinding this gear, will have to go into transmission and replace third gear, will have to wind second gear out and shift to 4th gear.May be better and cheaper to get a remanufactured transmission cause all parts are new versus just 3rd gear being replaced.

I was driving my 1989 firebird and allof a sudden it would not shift out of first, all was normal be fore that. Every thing looks normal.

Some transmissions have a limp home mode which locks the transmission into a low gear to get them to a garage or home if home is not too far away.
You may find that there is a fault in your transmission, if there is you should take it to an auto trans workshop and have it checked

Hello, My transmission slips in 2nd and 3rd gear. It feels like it slips. the RPMs go up and then it finally gets into gear. I cant hear anything wrong. I am wondering if it is a computer problem more...

Rarely is slipping, something that can be resolved, other than rebuilding the trans

I have a 1994 Plymouth Sundance with a 5 speed. Sometimes the car will not shift out of gear, but the gear shift will go up and down (but only in line...example, if I'm in 2nd, it won't shift out of 2nd,...

your cable that runs from the shifter to the trans., is stretched, or broken, or a bolt has come loose, some are dual cables with plastic caps that hold them on to the shifter. these caps break and cause alot of slop

Malfunctioning speedometer

You have more problums than that,

Does it also have problums shifting? I.E. staying in the low gears?

This is a common problem.

POSSIBLE SOLUTIONS,

1. replace the motion generator in the transmission.
2. Partial ignition switch problem.

The vehicle does not realize its moving and there fore does not know to shift.

Hope this tip helps.

Okay, I've got a 1991 Cutlass Supreme 3.2 that i just

Did it seem to be shifting ok on the highway. You could have a fuel filter issue which cause a backfire but that will not usually cause fire out of the tailpipe. You could have two seperate issues, a fuel issue and a transmission issue. You could have s tuck gear in the tranny and that would limit your speed on the highway if you werent shifting, fore example if you were stuck in second and runing it up to 64mph on the highway you could have melted a bunch of stuff. doesn't sound like a fuel filter issue to me but on that car it is simple enough and cheap enough to change out, change it and see what it does, if it doesnt work bring it back.
