Hello and sorry to hear your having this trouble. The best way to fix this problem is to have you vehicle scanned for engine fault and retrieve that data and properly repair the problem. The problem you having could be one of several switches so guessing would be waisting allot of time and money.

My 1992 nissan terrano blows to much black smoke .how to fix this .some say i have unbirt fuel?

if diesel and turbo , check turbo operation of for holes in the intercooler
if turbo or naturally aspirated check/ replace injector tips as black smoke indicators squirting and not atomizing
if petrol check for excessive fuel pressure, faulty injectors , leaking injector seal
regardless of petrol or diesel --black smoke indicates incorrect air / fuel ratio ( too much fuel) so injectors, intercooler, bad turbo or blocked air cleaner are all candidates for the fault

I drive a vw polo tdi 2006,when I went up the brigde it made a strange noise then black smoke started coming from the exhaust could not see even the car behind me,what coused it?

TDI I take is turbo direct injection so if that is the case you have a turbo problem or a split intercooler
what ever , the air/ fuel ratio has altered to excessive fuel
the noise could be a blown intercooler hose , split intercooler or turbine wheel in the turbo breaking off
Take it in for a proper diagnosis and have the codes read

Black smoke and intercooler hose swelling when reved up

black smoke is not enough air for the mixture
the intercooler hose swelling up when the turbo cuts in indicates a blockage in the intercooler or air inlet into the manifold
with a blockage ou will get black smoke so check the intercooler cores for blockages

About half the time a dose of seafoam and a new fuel filter will do it. The other half not, but filters are cheap, whether you like Seafoam or not.

1996 mitsubishi shogun loss of power

Hi Trevor, Please let us have the engine type, as that will help us help you diagnose the problem. In the meantime here are some suggestions. take off the ducting to the turbo and look to see if there is oil contamination in the inlet from the turbo. It is not unusual for those units to become worn and then begin burning oil by leaking it past the seals. If the turbo shaft has any drag, that would also indicate excessive wear, indicating a replacement is required. If the head and rotor are damaged or worn, that would usually present as a problem with starting, especially when cold. Defective injectors could also cause the problem. Piston rings may also be damaged and worn. It is advisable to service turbo induction vehicles used in dusty conditions every four thousand kilometers, much less than normally recommended by manufactures. I would hope that you have replaced the filters with new and that they are of good quality. If they are substandard, they could be blocking fuel flow to the injector pump. Let me know how you get on. Regards John

I have an Audi A41.9 TDI 1997 and it is coughing up black smoke which comes out of the exhaust pipe. On the motoway, while trying to overtake a car a puff of black smoke came out of the exhaust pipe and...

There are several possible faults:
1. Pressure sensor is faulty (it might come up on diagnostics as if it was working fine, but it shows the wrong manifold pressure).
2. Either one of the boost pipes/hoses or the intercooler have a hole somewhere.
3. Turbo's actuator is stuck.
4. Vacuum hose is damaged which goes in to the turbo actuator.
5. Control valve for the turbo actuator is not working properly.

Blows black smoke when running 2600 rpm and boost goes down

I assume its the 6.0L diesel...If so sigh......double sigh.. I had one of these...triple sigh. I need a bit more clarification. How many km on the engine/vehicle. Also, you say that it blows black smoke while running at a constant speed at 2600 rpm, or while you are accelerating to 2600 rpm. Also, when you say the boost goes down, does it decrease by itself, or when the throttle is let off. The boost naturally goes down when the throttle is released (not trying to be a ****, i dont know how much you know). However, if the boost is going down by itself, while the engine is under load (its not supposed to, it should stay constant) it could be a couple of things, which "can" contribute to black smoke. If there is a leak anywhere from the turbo to the intake of the engine, it will cause the engine to get less boost, which means less air into the cylinders, which means black smoke. Check all of the connectors/tubing coming from the turbo to the intercooler, and from the intercooler to the intake manifold and see if there are any problems. The more costly problems which results in boost going down, and black smoke, deals with a problem with the wastegate on the turbo (controls how much boost is produced, and when too much is being made, it will bleed off excess pressure). So if your wastegate is malfunctioning, your boost will go down and you will get black smoke cause the engine is not getting enough air. also, around 160km...80mi, the injectors "can" start to go on the 6.0L diesels....I would check the turbo for leaks, the tubing for leaks, and the intercooler for leaks (a big rock can punch a hole in radiators and intercoolers...intercooler will be in front of the radiator). I hope this helps

Jag X TYPE Diesel Black smoke coming from exhaust on acceleration

i had this problem and thought the fuel filter oil filter needed replacing so i have just had a service done but problem is still there but not as bad. been told it could be the AGR valve or a split pipe going to it which recuirculates unused fuel back to burn again. therefore unspent fuel is coming out of the exhaust causing the black smoke. i am still looking for the answer aswell, hope this helps.
