I remember having a slightly older GMC Jimmy doing this every once in a while. I was young at that point, but I believe that there are a few of the interior wires that run very close under the carpet, and sitting on the seat mashes the wires to the ground, after a while, it rubs the insulation off, and allows it to short circuit back to the battery.

How to fix or disable passenger seat belt chime? It sometimes goes off for no reason.

There is a switch in the seat that operates when someone is sitting on it. This will operate the seat belt warning if someone sits on it and does not do up their seat belt. It appears that this switch is intermittently faulty. If you remove the seat (usually only 4 bolts) you should find the wires to the switch and can either bypass it or replace it.

I have a 2000 Jimmy with over 140,000 miles on it. When the vehicle is turned off and I put my foot on the brake pedal, the following happens: the interior and exterior lights come on, the dash lights come...

that's a good one! of course not for you, but have encountered a lot of them almost like that, the main thing you are facing is a problem we know as 'ELECTRICAL FEED-BACK" this is cause by a lack of proper grounded circuit. have noticed g.m. trucks and s.u.v.having this problem. the best i can do for you is for you to go after the ground eyelet connectors on the frame and on the interior. the frame eyelets are on the inside of frame rail, the interior grounds are on both sides of kick panels and around the driver and passenger seat mounting bolts you will have to pull the carpet back to get to them, take each bolt off and clean. re-install with a little bit of WD-40 sprayed on.

Jimmy electrical burning.

The wire has rubbed somewhere and is shorted to ground. Replace the wire from the door switch to the light, replace the fuse with one of the correct amperage and it should work. Disconnect the battery while you are replacing the wire.
