2 things you need to know, 1 the fuel pump needs a relay this is a small elecro magnet type switch in the fuse box, normally a small black box. near the fuses. when you put the key in and turn 2 clicks it should click and then you should here a buzzing noise the noise is the pump working so if that noise is not there then you need to check the fuse, relay first as the pump will not work without them. secondly after you are sure these 2 are good while the buzzing noise is there the car should run, if not then the problem is not the pump

My 2001 Dodge Dakota needs a new fuel level sending unit, but it's only sold as part of the fuel pump assembly. Can I replace the sending unit with a 1995 sending unit instead of replacing the whole...

You can only replace what is avail & listed for your application

No one will know if you can swap out different years of parts,
except what the parts folks sell or have listed

If you have ever dropped a fuel tank yourself,it is not fun

The fuel pump may last 18.5 years as my Dakota did or
6 years as my old caddy did

You change the fuel pump any time you go inside the tank,
just as you change a water pump when you do a timing belt

Not worth doing the job twice in a few months or year & on your
back in the snow, etc.

You may find it easier to remove the front box bolts, loosen the
rear ones & tip up the box

Dodge trucks rust so bad & have for decades, I doubt you want
to try & remove the tank straps

I replaced my 97 s10's fuel pump checked the fuses &checked the relay & reset my computer changed my fuel filter disconected my security system & still can't get my fuel pump to co

The oil pressure sending unit could be bad. If your oil pressure gets below 7psi than it shuts off all power going to the fuel pump. It is screwed into the engine block just to the right of the distributor.

Why is my 1995 3.4 liter 6 cylinder Pontiac firebird less fuel efficient than it was 2 months ago and how do i change the fuel pump

I don't know why its not fuel efficient. But the fuel pump is inside the fuel tank. you should not attempt to replace it yourself, and don't change it on a whim. prove that's its bad, its an expensive guess.

Hello i would consider changing your relay for the fuel pump from experience Ford relays are frisky i own two Ford products i know ounce the relay starts to stick and flicker your going to short the pump usually when i change a fuel pump on a Ford i always a rule change the relay as well due to past experience costumer comes back within a week fuel pump again change the relay with the pump never see them again. So i recommend you change both save your self the grief and you will need to drop the tank down to properly gain access to the wire harness for the fuel pump.

1998 Dodge Caravan. engine dies and wont start. fuel pump was changed twice but i get a few miles & dies again & wont start. im thinkin fuel filter is plugged....

It might be your fuel filter. Also, Dodge and Chrysler is bad for fuel pump failures. A clogged fuel filter can cause this. Also, you might not be getting enough fuel pressure. There should be a test port on the van, where you can test the gas pressure. You also have a fuel pump relay or switch. This could be bad as well. Hope this helps you.

well it could be a bad wire to fuel pump....or pump is old and drawing to much current......replace 15 amp fuse and test for fuel if it blows again u can try a 20 amp fuse in place of the 15 amp ......but only to determine if pump is still pumping fuel b4 you turn on key disconnect fuel sending line to engine and get a bucket .......try turning it over and see if fuel is pumped into the bucket ....if 20 amp fuse works chances are your wiring is good....and u need a new pump good luck let me know how u make out

My car hesitates and slowsdown while driving

The fuel filter is in the gas tank with the fuel pump - it's actually a 'SOCK' that filters fuel before it enters the pump. Odds are it's not the filter. Odds are you have a Throttle Position Sensor which is going bad (bad spots in the potentiometer). Erratic resistance changes sending BAD signals to the Engine Control Module and Transmission Control Module ECU & TCM. A good technician knows how to check it with an analog ohm meter.
