Question about Mitsubishi Montero

1 Answer

Mitsubishi Montero '02. Just had the O2 sensor replaced and the light came back on showing Code PO431 catalytic converter Bank 2. They say it'll cost me at least $1000 to fix it. Is this correct? Anyway around it? Or could it be something else.

Their are 2 O2 sensors one before the cat and one after ,try changing the other one first before you go to a new cat which is expensive to say the least

Where is the 02 Oxygen Sensor before the cadalic converter on a 2006 Hyundai Santa Fe

Usually these are located on the exhaust manifold or just below the exhaust manifold and you should be able to see it in the engine bay. On V6 engines there will be one sensor on each of the 2 exhaust banks.
You will probably need to remove the engine cover to see the sensors on your exhaust.

If someone told you to replace these because you got a particular fault code I would be wary. A decent scan tool and basic diagnostics can show if the 02 sensor is working or not. Some faults often blamed on an 02 sensor are not due to faulty sensors.

I have a 98mitsubishi montero my check ingine light is on i hooked up my computer to read the code it reads bank 1/2 P0161oxygen sensor which oxygen sensor is the one on the driver side or passenger side

Bank 1 is on the side that cylinder number 1 is on, and 2 is on the other . Look up your firing order and you should find it fairly easily. And sensor 1&2 refers to before or behind catylitic converter.

Could the catalytic converter cause this code 2002 mitsubishi montero sport 3.5 p0161 code changed the o2 sensor and still get the same code could the catalytic converter cause this code

No it has nothing to do with the cat.
Code 161 is for a problem with the heater circuit for sensor 2 bank two. Either the heater in the sensor has failed, or the circuit that powers the heater is not working.

How many oxygen sensors does a 2004 endevor have

Hi Santiago:
There is a sensor located before a emission device called a catalytic converter that is located on both sides. The sensors in the back of the engine are called O2 sensor 1 bank one, (sensor before the catalytic converter) and O2 sensor 2 bank one (located after the converter).

On the front of the engine, going down you have two as well for there is a converter on both sides. first one coming from the engine is O2 sensor 1 bank 2 and then your failed one after the converter, O2 sensor 2 bank 2.

Hope this helps; also keep in mind that your feedback is important and I`ll appreciate your time and consideration if you leave some testimonial comment about this answer.

My check engine light turned on my 2006 mitshbishi montero it gave an p0057error codr..what do I need to do

The 057 code means " bank 2 sensor 2, shorted to ground ".
Check to see if the O2 sensor after the converter has wires rubbing on the frame. Worn insulation with wire shorting to ground?
Bank 2 means the side without the #1 cylinder.
Sensor 2 means the oxygen sensor downstream from the catalytic converter.

Code po430 not sure what maybe converter

One of three (3) possibitlies:
1. Catalytic Converter is malfunctioning.
2. O2 Sensor is malfunctioning. This will be the O2 Sensor located on the Catalytic Converter. However you should check and/or replace both sensors if needed.
3. You have an Exhaust Leak.
In Order of checking:
A. Check and Repair any Exhaust Leak.
B. Replace the O2 Sensor on the Catalytic Converter 1st. Also Known as the Downstream O2 Sensor or HO2 Sensor.
C. Replace the O2 on the Exhaust Manifold prior to the Catalytic Converter. Also Known as the Upstream O2 Sensor.
D. Replace the Catalytic Converter.

Code P0158

Bank 2 sensor 2 is the post-catalytic converter O2 sensor on (usually) the driver's side. It's the sensor that the car uses to monitor the efficiency of the catalytic converter. Whichever side of the engine has cylinders 4, 5, and 6 is bank 2 (you'll probably find that information on a decal underhood). Flashing the computer could be as easy as what you're doing (resetting by disconnecting the battery), or it may involve a more detailed process including diagnostic software. It's most likely though that what you are doing is all that's required - disconnecting the battery for 30 minutes or so puts the ECU back into learn mode, and it basically starts fresh to relearn the engine's operating parameters.

Need to know what po431 code

catalytic converter fault, I would try to replace the o2 sensor first because the cat cost just about $500! I know it is the sensor after that cat and I am pretty sure it is for the back side of the motor.

Good luck, I just replaced all o2 sensors and still got that code and I just purchased 2 cats- Big Money Problem!
