If the linstrument or parking lights don't dim slightly as you turn the key in the ignition switch there is a high probability that the problem is with the ignition switch electrical contacts or the related wiriing, not the key. If the problem was the key it would not rotate, just as a padlock or door lock would not rotate. Also check the ignition coil to make certain the wiring is iintact and that the coil is producing a spark to the spark plugs. Be careful not to get shocked by the high voltage output of the coil.

What is this red flashing light that you are talking about? Please specify the symbol that is in question. The owners manual has a section that covers the gauge cluster and what the warning lights mean. Is this light is a lock symbol or something referring to the vehicles anti-theft system. Could this light be the oil symbol? If this is the oil symbol then this issue could be related to low or poor oil quality (oil change needed), the oil pressure sending unit is faulty, the wiring to the oil pressure sending unit is damaged, or the oil pump or the oil pressure regulator is weak or damaged. I mentioned these two examples because they are related to a no start problem. If the engine light is on. You may obtain my diagnostic information if you have the engine codes read. Let me know how you are making out. If you have other questions please write back. good luck.
Help my astra 1.6 automatic won't start.broke down this morn it won't tow anywhere it seems be stuck , on the desplay it says a4 flashes N then goes to -- ! There is ecu coming up and engine managment and a car with a spanner :/ what could it be please
Please check that the key is paired with the vehicle's security system. If you have a spare key, then please try that too. Is there a flashing key symbol warning light on the dash when attempting to start? This could mean that there is a pairing issue, and that the security system needs reprograming.
Same thing is happening right now on a 2002 Monte Carlo. When the key is simply turned to ON, all of the lights on the dash starts blinking rapidly. When I attempt to turn the car over, there is no CLICK or anything from the engine - nada. Ignition turns and the dash goes dark, as if it wants to TRY to start - but nothing happens. But, when I press the brake pedal (and the key is just sitting in the ON position), all of the blinking lights stops flashing and just stay lit. Therefore, I changed the brake switch, thinking it might make a huge difference. Didn't really help at all. When the key is turned, you can hear the fuel pump engage and everything seems to be ready to go. But, the car won't start (it will only start when it feels like it)...hit and miss, pretty much. Does anyone know the TRUE solution to this issue? Does the ignition need to be replaced in order to get this car to crank over
my power locks dont work or heated seats on my 2003 Dodge Ram 1500 i also have keyless remote entry and that dont work i took it to the dodge dealer and they had it for three days and could not find the problem they said the called dodge and did not get a answer please help
Anytime you disconnect and reconnect your battery, the factory alarm will arm upon reconnection and the truck will not start. You have to close your doors, then manually lock and unlock the door with your key. This should turn off the security system and you should be able to start the truck.
