Question about 1997 Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

1997 Jaguar XJ6L at times will not start. We've changed the starter and the solenoid and it still will not start right away. What else can we do? Thanks!

With foot on brake it does nothing, except all the lights come on, but no noise, so no turning over. We move the shift back and forth from park to drive to neutral several times and sometimes this will make it start.

All relays have been changed as well.

right its problem with the gear selection ,its not in park for it to start ,my jag manual is in the workshop but in the centre consol where the gearchange lever is under this is a inhibitor switch ,this is faulty from what you describe ,gear must be in neutral position to change the switch

Thanks. I will try to find a diagram of what a gearchange lever is. I assume it's in our manual?

Its a solenoid...it engages the bendix and truck starts...bendix should retract because power to it gets shut off by ignition switch going to "run".

Only way bendix would stay engaged or get a signal to keep turning ???
Bad contacts in ignition switch...maybe ??

CODE P1193 FOR JAGUAR 1997 XJ6L . I HAVE CODES PO300,P1313 P1314,P1193,PO158,PO138, P1157, P1138. JUST CHANGED ALL 4 O2 SENSORS AND GOT ALL THIS CODES.

P1193 is the heated O2 sensor, P0300 is a random missfire, P1313 P1314 are Catalist damage banks A and B, the rest of the 'P' codes are all to do with the same area, have you changed one at a time? or both at once? as the conectors can be crossed and this will throw the ECU out, generating the fault codes given.
You will need a Jag garage to re set the sensors.
