Question about 2001 Chevrolet Malibu

1 Answer

2001 Chevy Malibu

I have 2 problems with my malibu at the moment. One has been around for a time. When parked, and shifting into reverse, it seems to take a little bit of force to make go. Going into any other gear is fine, just going from park to reverse.
The second is I have a dash light on, it says "Check", and has a little picture, and I have no idea what it is. I have tried looking for it's definition and have not found it yet. I don't own the Chilton manual for it either, cannot find it.

Buy a cheap OBD2 reader and read the instruction to get the error code or codes then you need possibly an expert to do the analysis.
You can also reset the error with this device to see if it comes back
Plug is under dash driver side for tester to plug in

There is two screws under the tray in the console. also, check around the shifter knob for a small square with a removable cover or plug. this is a shifter release button that can be engaged with a pen or toothpick

My 2008 Chevy Malibu won't go into park and I can't take the keys out of the ignition.

There is a problem in the shift linkage or internally in the transmission.
Needs further diagnostics.

My 2002 Chevy Malibu sometimes shifts very slow. I will go from park to drive and there is about a 3 second delay.

I would first check the fluid level. If it is a little low it could cause the slow shift. I would also recommend putting in a can of TRANS X. It will clean up the valves inside of the tranny. I did this with my 2001 malibu and never had trouble again. I have 290,000 miles on it!

2002 chevy malibu transmission soleniod

It doesn't sound like a solenoid, check the universals and if it's not those, it is more than likely a linkage problem,

99 malibu horn honks shifting into D or R

wires from the horn run down the steering column and pass the area where the shift linkage is also in the column. its either a loose wire, or a chafted wire inside the column. Be VERY careful working on this if you have airbags. they must be disarmed before you work on the column.
