1 Answer

Restarting pajero I own a pajero V6 3.5 with the 6G74 engine we recently replaced the rings, the hydrolic tappets and the spark plugs but we cannot see to get the engine to start. We have confirmed that there is current on the spark plugs are and fuel supply is ok. When the engine come one it some times fires with three cylinder. Please note that before we opened it up the vehicle was running fine but was emitting some white smoke. regards James

  • Its still not peformin well, actually whats now happening is it can perform perfectly for the fist 5km town driving then starts not to exceed 3000rpm for a couple of km then it goes perfect. I had took it for a diagnosis test no faulty codes picked.

Vw polo 1.2. three cylinder 04 plate when warm develops a misfire. turn off and start again cures the problem instantly. have replaced plugs and coil packs..........no difference. help thanks

vw polo 1.2 3 cylinder engines have a problem with the valves being to long and once they wear into the valve seats they use up the reserve travel in the hydrolic tappets and remain open when the valve lenthens when hot causeing missfires but shrink when engine is switched or causing a tempery cure

When I removed #4 sparkplug there is oil on sparkplug hole on a 2000 Kia sportage

If oil is on the spark plug tip then it could be from worn valve stems or from worn piston rings. When you accelerate away from the traffic lights and the engine blows a lot of greyish smoke then this is a sign of worn parts.
If the oil is leaking into the spark plug hole, then it could be leaking from the tappet cover, either the tappet cover bolts are loose or the tappet cover gasket is faulty.

I own a 2002 Kia Rio RXV and my husband decided to change my spark plugs. When he pulled them out of the engine, they were all covered in oil. What would cause this and is it worth fixing?

You have a 4 cylinder and there are seals in the cover around the spark plug holes. You can replace these with a rocker arm cover gasket set. Costs about $25.00. The oil does not hurt the sparkplug, but over time it will affect the plug wires/ boots and cause a misfire. these are not hard to replace. Your call.

06 A6 pet 2.0T very loud engine noise at bulk-head side of rocker

ur car uses hydrolic lifters instead of tappets but they sound the same when faulty. most likely a 'sticky' lifter. very expensive to change.

On my 1994 L200 3000 mitsubishi there is a tappet which has stuck and is rattling, can you help.

Mits are well know for top end noisedue to hydrolic tappets. Note we are talking about a tapping or clicking sound here not a knock. You can try using an engine flush product if the noise is bad and then changing your oil. Follow manufactures instructions on the engine flush product. I have also used Marvel Mystery Oil (available at Walmart and most auto parts houses) with some success on this. Generally if the oil is not changed regularily eventually the tapping noise starts happening. FYI: hydrolic tappet can and do fail but generally the noise is associated with not maintaing oil changes

Hydrolic Valve Lifters.(Vanos) Replacing

Hi

The lifters can be cleaned by getting the engine nice and hot and then adding an engine flush to the oil and leaving the engine running at a high tickover for about 15 to 20 minutes, and then giving the car an oil and filter change.

Are you sure its the tappets and not the timing chain?
