This problem occurs when the seal start leaking this is a relatively small and cheap part but expensive to install over two hundred dollars unfortunately it mst be fixed or you will continually have to get under the vehicle to fill up the trans oil fluid.

If you can't find a dipstick you must fill and check through the level plug in the side of the trans ( usually just above the pan rail on the drivers side)

What is the code p1870 on my 2000 isuzu rodeo and approximately how much for repairs

code p 1870 refers to AT---component slipping===causes mechanical fault
this could be a band or clutch problem and could possibly be a matter of adjustment , fluid change or filter clean
I would take it to an accredited auto transmission specialist( only-no local mechanic ), have them do a proper diagnosis and quote and ask will a fluid change and adjustment when the pan is off fix the problem
if could be a band piston seal failure or low oil pressure from a failing pressure regulator
cannot suggest repair costs until you know exactly is wrong and that will be determined when the pan is off and the internals can be inspected

Can't find dip stick for transmition

There is a dipstick, most likely rear drivers side of engine but could be elsewhere. There are only 2 dipsticks in engine compartment, one is oil and the other is trans fluid. They should be marked. You add the fluid down the dipstick tube. Engine needs to be running in park and trans needs to be at operating temp to get accurate measurement on fluid. Hope this helps.

How to check the auto Trans

You can't check it....there is a overfill screw were you fill transmission through...its under the vihicle..transmissions don't burn or leak oil so no need to check them ..unless it is slipping or shifting bad.....should have trans oil changed about every 20,000 miles..

what size engine?

Usually you just fill with a funnel, unless it is at an awkward position.

Where is the dipstick located for the transmission fluid on a 2005 Pontiac Sunfire

According to the owners manual unless you drive in hilly, or heavy stop and go traffic like a taxi, you should never have to add trans mission fluid unless you have a leak. The manual doesn't even give a fluid capacity for the auto transmission. So I guess when you have to have the auto trans. filter changed, you have to take the car to a transmission specialist. If in fact the filter even needs to be changed. The manual leaks you to believe that the transmission fluid and filter are lifetime products.

pan has two plugs in it.
start vehicle, run through gears a couple of times then while engine running with vehicle on flat ground remove fill plug and top up until oil trickles out.
