Question about 1993 Toyota 4Runner

1 Answer

1987 4Runner 2 Problems, both stemmed from dropping the fuel tank to replace a rusty brake line. After replacing the rusty brake lines and the rusty fuel line I have not been able to get brkae pedal back, I have also noticed that I now have to crank a long long time to start. I checked the fuel pump connection at the tank and also checked for power at the lead with the truck on and have no power at the fuel pump lead. Checked fuses, where else should I look? Yes, the truck will start and run after allot of cranking.

My 1999 4Runner just started having starting problems. I replaced the battery under warranty. still has issues. It has issues with the engine Hot or Cold so I know its got to be something other than the starter. What I figured out last night was, depending on how I hold the key when turning the ignition can determine if the engine will start or not. Pushing down, while turning has the most success, while pushing up while turning will always not start.
Therefore this sounds similar to the condition that had affected my other car and now I'm looking into replacing the starting switch.

Rough idle

Hello Patricia. Their are several common problems with this year Sportage that makes it run rough. The most common problem is clogged fuel injectors caused by a rusty gas tank. Their is a recall for this concern but even if the vehicle already had the gas tank and fuel injectors replaced that does not mean you do not have the problem as the replacement gas tanks also rust out. to check for this you should remove the fuel filter and drain the gas out of it into a clear container. Blow thru the outlet so unfiltered fuel is drained into the container. If the fuel is rusty you will need to replace the fuel tank, filter and injectors and then flush out all the fuel lines. Another common problem causing a rough idle with this year is the camshaft timing being incorrect. This is caused by a loose timing belt or sometimes the keyway on the crankshaft breaks so the crankshaft sprocket turns on the shaft. This means that when the timing marks for TDC cylinder 1 are lined up everything looks good but in reality the sprocket is lined up but the crankshaft is not at true TDC. I think their may be a TSB for this. Dont forget to also look for vacuum leaks. If the problem started after spark plugs where replaced you may want to check for a disconnected vacuum line at the rear of the manifold. The manifold comes off to replace the spark plugs and it is very common that the technician forgets to put this vacuum line back on. Hope this helps.

1994 explorer limited 1) left rear drivers brake line leaking out of sight up high by wheel well and gas tank any pics or diagrams of what the lines look like there(where they connect, bend etc...2) It has...

If it's a rusty brake line that's leaking you'd best replace the whole brake line system (all 4 wheels) for your safety. Fuel lines have the same problem. These are made out of steel and rust fast due
to calcium chloride used on the roads in winter.
Unless you're familiar with routing and installing connectors on these lines I suggest you let a pro do the job. It ain't as easy as it looks.

1987 Cadilac Sedan Deville- where is the fuel pump and how difficult is it to replace

It is located inside the gas tank. The tank must be emptied and dropped out to replace it which is not very easy to do if the gas lines, retaining brackets and bolts are very rusty

1987 Ford F150 1.Gas gauge doesn't work. 2.Experiencing a high idle. 3.Leaking brake fluid.

Problems 1 & 2 - Pump/Float assembly.

After 22 years, things get rusty and seize, since there is a double fuel system problem, the most likely culprit is in the tank, and usually after this many years (not always miles), its the pump and float.

As for 3. 22 years of wear, tear and rust. Trace the brake lines and find the wet spots. As the braking system is a sealed system, its quite dangerous to continue to operate a vehicle with some form of puncture or leak, as it can cause air locks and cease functionality of the brakes. There is a good chance that somewhere along the lines there is a worn seal, line or connector that is leaking. Follow the lines from the master cylinder, find the wet spot and replace the connector, seal or line that is worn as needed.

Fuel Line Leak, Need Advice

the metal line is part of the fuel pump. if the line is that fragile it should just be replaced. what if it broke and left you stranded somewhere. the fuel tank might look rusty but it's probably just surface rust.

How do you changs a fuel pump in a 1995 Dodge

You MIGHT not have to drop the tank. On the 95 LHS (same frame) you can go through the trunk. take the trunk lining out. Underneath it near the back seat there may be an access panel. If so it will make it MUCH easier to replace! Worth the time to check it out!

Brake line behind fuel tank leaking

If the line leaking is plastic then it's not a brake line it's a fuel line. If the truck runs then it is most likely the return fuel line. If you can't get to it without dropping the tank then that's what you'll have to do, but you shouldn't need to remove it completely.
It is best to siphon out as much gas as possible. Before you removing the bolts take 2 pcs. of smooth fence wire or even 12ga. copper wire and make a cradle to support the tank, cut the wire at least 2 ft. longer than what it will take to go from the frame to the drive-shaft.
At a point about 1/3 in from each end of the tank lupe one end of the wire through holes in the frame and twist it a couple of times, then run it under the tank and around the drive shaft and twisting the ends a couple of turns.
After you get all the bolts out of the tank supports if you don't have room to repair the line you can loosen the wires around the drive-shaft and allow the tank to drop down some[this is why you need the wires 2 ft. longer]
After the repairs which will probably be replacing the rubber fuel hose that attaches the line to the tank,[I'd replace both of them] tighten the wires around the drive-shaft and replace the tank bolts. Remember to get all your bolts started before you tighten any,
