It is your idle control valve , when you start your car the humm should go away , if the car dies on staring and the humming stays there all the time it is faulty

What is the sensor on the side of the throttle body and if it goes out will the car not start

Depends on the vehicle. There should be two on the throttle body. One is opposite of the throttle cable, this is the throttle position sensor(TPS). The other one is bigger , it is the idle air control(IAC) motor. I have never heard one hum before, I guess the IAC could because it is an actuator. IF the IAC was stuck open, this would cause the engine not to start. It would a very big vacuum leak.

The engine light comes on and the reduced power is activated ,there sensors were tripped all to do with the throttle . the auto shop ended up replacing the throttle body and the problem just happend again...

I'd bring it back to the shop that put in the throttle body and have them check to see if the replacement was defective or failed. If not, you may have a bad throttle position sensor [part of the gas pedal] I'm assuming it worked fine for a while after the repairs with no problems then suddenly started acting up again. I've replaced a bunch of throttle bodies but only one position sensor so far. There's always the chance that there's a bad wire somplace or some other more exotic problem but I'll bet you'll find it at either the sensor or throttle body. Good luck, hope this helps!

My n reg golf starts no problem but dies right away no revs

had the same thing and it turned out to be a split in the gasket between the throttle body base and the fuel inlet manifold, look at the base of the throttle body where it bolts onto the manifold and try to move it

pluged air intake

try opening the air box then start and drive if all works fine snake the intake tube with garden hose
if it does same thing look for vac leaks then fuel presure
theres a schrader valve on the fuel rail for testing fuel presure and weather the rail holds presure when not running

Try removing air inlet hose at throttle body, and open plate up by turning throttle linkage slightly (engine off) and spray a shot ( second or 2 ) of WD-40 into throttle body, then try to start and see if it try's to start, or starts for a second then dies. If it does, you got a fuel delivery problem. Can you hear fuel pump hum at all in rerar of car when you turn key just to on position? (not start)

I have a renault clio 1.4 R reg it misfires

misfire could happen if you have a leak in the intake or exhause valve , or if your engine running rich thats mean too much fuel coming to the engine . you should check oxygen sensor
