it probably does need a tranny fluid change, but this wouldn't account
for loss of power. The tranny is only reacting to the power provided by
the engine. I'd think it's starting with power loss from the engine.
The easiest and cheapest place to start is the fuel filter. It's
probably getting plugged and restricting fuel flow when more power is
required - as in going up a hill. The filter is about 8 to 12 dollars.
The auto parts store can tell you where it's located.

1988 toyota cresida 6 cyl.. stumbles on acceleration alot, new cap and wires and plugs, like something is breaking down, what a bout coil or ign. module??? at idle reving up it stumbles alot just like driving, cant even really drive safe. wayne poor starting, sometimes it takes 4 to 5 trys to start cold, have changed coolant temp sensor but no better. I have a 1988 Toyota Cressida with 172,000 miles on it. The bell housing has a hole in it about the size of a fist. There is a loud clunking sound coming from that area. The sound can be there at any time while the engine is running. What is the best way to solve this problem? Any suggestions?
