I have a 2006 Pontiac G6, at first the air bag light came on and went off. Now, it stays on all the time. And it say get air bags serviced. I took it to the shop, they said it was the driver side seat belt, and it needed a new air bag system because it is all connected with the seat belt. He said it would cost $500. What do you think?

I think you can put a piece of tape over the light and forget it. 500 bucks, what a scam.

No, not if it's the seat belt switch. Go to a real mechanic.

I would take it to another dealer and have them look at it. I would hope your life is worth more than $500. My wife's 2015 Malibu had a sensor problem on passenger side and it was $1000 so I traded it in for a new Malibu.

SOURCE: engine light 2006 pontiac g6(reset)

first be sure that its the engine light and not the "service" light. the service light will usually illuminate if its time for an oil change. if its the service light ur owners manual should tell u how to reset it. if its ur engine light then try disconnecting ur positive battery cable for 1 minute. that should reset ur ecm and get rid of the engine light. if the engine light comes back on then have a diagnostic scan done to determine whats causing it. SOURCE: chevy silverado 2006 lights "service air bag"

First of all you need to get this problem fixed ASAP. While the airbag light is illuminated, your SDM (Sensing and Diagnostic Module aka: the brain of your airbag system) shuts of power to the airbags. In which, if you are in an accident your airbags will not deploy while this light is illuminated. You need to take your vehicle to a GM dealership. A Tech 2 scantool is needed to retrieve the code from the SDM. Hopefully it won't be a costly repair, but is something that defineatly needs to be corrected soon. Good luck and hope all works well.

Please provide instuctions on how to reset the air bag on a pontiac G6 2007

You'll need a code eraser to turn off the light, but if the light is on due to a fault that is in the air bag circuit, you will need to diagnose the circuit with a scanner....that most people do not have unless your a repair facility.

My 2006 Pontiac G6 all of a sudden cut off on me while driving. The message said "Service Power Steering" and "Service Air Bag". I towed it to a Pontiac Dealer and because it started, they sent it back...

There are to many things that can cause this issue. At my best guess, I'll say an issue with the ignition switch or harness. The wire harness from the ignition switch could have a break from it or has been rubbing against a metal part causing a short and shutting down your engine.

This is the best i can think of since you have mentioned that your air bag and and power steering service light came on. I'l have them inspect the wire harness more closely to the ignition switch and replace if any sighs of worn area.

Thank you for using fixya and good luck

Air bag light stays on

I had the same issue wit my 2006 Hyunda Santa Fe air bag light staying on. I had the system scanned and it was the passenger bottom seat. It has sensors in the padding that monitor the weight on the seat. If it is over 40-60 pounds then in case of an accident the air bag will deploy. This is to protect children in case they are setting in the front seat. However if the wire sensors over time break and the circuit is open then the air bag light will stay on. The bottom seat is around $300 dollars not counting labor to replace.

Replacing drivers side air bag on 2006 pontiac g6

irst, You must get the steering wheel with controls. I believe part numbers were listed above, but bottom line, make sure you get the right color if you are ordering. The black one is called ebony. Prices vary depending on where you get them. I got mine from a salvage yard brand new for $75. Second, You must replace the clockspring with the column harness. If you have a light duty pickup, you will need part number 26101829. This is for a 2 stage air bag. If you have a heavy duty, order part number 26101828. This is for a single stage air bag. If you are unsure, take off your airbag and look to see if it has 1 or 2 pigtails connected to it. 1 is a single stage, 2 is a 2 stage. GM has reduced the number of part numbers available to simplify things. Therefore, you will get a harness equipped with an additional 8 pin connector. This is for the steering wheel speed sensor for quadrasteer. If you do not have quadrasteer, just tape it to the column and don't worry about it.

Be careful when installing the harness, there are about 14 connectors, I spent 2 hours installing the harness and wheel.

Air bag light stays on

I just got a letter in the mail from Pontiac saying that if the air bag light is staying on then the air bag sensor, which is on the passenger side, may be bad.If any water has touched the sensor, that may be the cause of the light to be on.They also said that if it's on than your air bag can deploy at any time.Even if you haven't gotten into an acccident.I have the same problem and I am looking into the sensor for the air bag.You should do the same.Hope this helps you.
