Wrecking 1999 sable. how do i drain the gas tank?

If your getting rid of it break the filler inset
or remove or cut the filler hose & put you
tubing in there
Could drive a punch thru the bottom of the tank
the vehicle is scap who cares

Have to remove the tank

sadly, it is inside your gas tank. Tank has to come off to access it.
Unless you have the proper location, help, and tools, this one is best left to a shop.

luckily deisel in a gas engine will not wreck a motor but you have to take the tank off and drain it completely. when full of gas again may burp a bit but in no time purrs like a kitten....luck that wasnt a diesel with getting gas put in it that will wreck a diesel if you start an run it if no start same u can drain it off.flush tank ....but with a gas engine a little diesel will probably black smoke a little but should clean more than harm...thanks for using fixya.

For 1999 Mercury Sable 3.0L EFI 6cyl the Fuel Filter is located under vehicle, passenger side, below seating area, passenger side of fuel tank, mounted on chassis in fuel line.

The fuel pump is located on top and inside the fuel tank. You must remove the fuel tank in order to replace the fuel filter. Disconnect the battery before dropping the fuel tank.

There is a flap in the filler tube that won't allow a hose into the tank. I would disconnect the fuel line and jump the fuel pump relay and run the pump to drain the gas.

The inline filter is under the car on the right side in front of the gas tank. a small screwdriver will pry off the retaining clip at both ends. Remove the grommets holding the filter to the frame.Check the direction arrow and start with the engine side. If it was clogged less fuel will drip onto you and your drain pan. There is also a filter in the gas tank at the pump. Good luck.

do not worry about draining it, pour about 6 to 8 ounces of engine oil in it, and top it up with fresh fuel, it will be fine. The only way to drain the tank is to remove it and turn it over.
