If you are talking about the spring clips on the upper and lower hoses there is a special tool just for those its about 40 dollars i just did a radiator in my 94 slt 5.2 and i wasnt about to spend money on that tool, a big pair of channel locks work, i used vise grips because you have to keep it clamped in order to remove it!! the one at the thermostat is a bit tricky but can be done, hope this helps you
Theres pins that snap over the connector that connects the cooler lines to the radiator. Once you remove those...(DO NOT LOSE THEM!!!!) There hell replacing. The hose' should come right off.

The tranny fluid could be leaking from a line or cooler if coming from the front of the engine. The fluid is usually cooled by the radiator if an automatic transmission and is cooled in the radiator tanks. It may also have an external cooler attached to the front of the radiator area that can also leak
A500 & A518 Overdrive Automatics (and the 904, 727 and other variants) run the Transmission Cooler Lines out of the Left side of the Transmission, near the Shifter Linkage & Kickdown linkage.
The lines then run along the side of the transmission, along the side of the engine oil pan, to the bottom tank of the radiator (or external cooler, if the truck had an external cooler installed).
These lines just run straight through the radiator to provide cooling. You can bypass the radiator by adding a transmission fluid cooler, during the cold weather in a pinch, a replacement transmission hose with 2 clamps can be connected between the 2 transmission lines to correct leakage, but in warm weather, the fluid suffers if it doesn't get the benefit of a cooler.
Aftermarket coolers are relatively inexpensive, especially compared to the long term benefit of keeping the fluid degrees cooler, prolonging the life of the trans.
Check your paper work for the warranty that came with the rebuild job they did.If it is still under their warranty then I would have them fix their screw up.Normally a shop will warranty their work for 1 year and 12k miles.The external cooler is usually for vehicles that do a lot of towing.Yes your vehicle cools the transmission thru the radiator tank.there is a cooler built into it.Hope this helps.Good luck.
Drain your coolant (not on the ground), Remove the upper and lower radiator hoses, If trans cooler equiped, remove trans cooer oil lines from radiator, remove either the top sheet metal holding the radiator down, or the four bolts 2 on each side, and lift the radiator out. Good luck.
