I was playing a cd the other day in my 2003 Matrix xr, I got out of the car to get the mail and when I came back (i didn't turn the car off) the factory radio was out. The read-out for the time still works and it will eject/accept cds, but nothing else works. I'm thinking that the anti-theft triggered for some reason and needs to be reset... unfortunately, as the second owner of this car, I do not have an owners manual. Have you had this issue come up before and how to I get back to rockin' in the Matrix?

Re: radio troubleshooting, reset maybe?
Toyotas have 2 power wires one for the stereo itself and another for the memory. They are connected with other accesories such as the dome lights , cigarette lighter, etc. using the same fuse circuits. check all the fuses to the accessories and the radio fuse.If all the fuses are good it is a programming problem.I don't know how to program it.

The check engine light can come on for any number of different reasons. To make a guess over the internet is at most just a wild guess. The best thing to do is to take it back to the place you bought it and have them retrieve the code(s). that way you will know what the problem is and how to proceed to fix it.
I pulled the fuse
put the fuse back in
turn on the radio, insert a CD
pulled the fuse again, counted to 5
inserted the fuse again
while the CD started playing I clicked the Menu button and used the tunning dial to select default settings, and it asks if you want to reset default choose yes.
my radio works fine now!
Had the same problem with my '03 330xi. Navigation worked fine but radio and CD did not work at all. I opened the fuse box located in the glove compartment to check the three fuses associated with the navigation system and radio. #7, #39, and #41. All three fuses were intact so I put them back in. I then put the key into the ignition, turned it to position 2 and miraculously the radio came to life. I guess it acted as some type of reset?
