It's a job...but it may be best to get a professional to do this for the simple reason : once your remove the tie-rod ends, unless you have the nut marked down to the millimeter, your allignment will be off, which could at best wear your tyres down unnaturally, or at worse, result in the car being very unstable, especially around corners !
there is a roll pin hold ing the cv shaft to the drive shaft, has to be tapped through, the cv joint is usually held to shaft by a cir-clip that needs 'opening out' and the cv joint will come off.your second query should be helped by doing this first procedure ,then there should be a metal ring bolted to the trans housing that holds that end of shaft in place ,this is placed OVER the rubber dif boot so you may not have seen it as old boot has come away ,do as 2 seperate operations much easier
start by jacking up car end of cv will have a cotter pin remove it, you'll need a 35 mm or 1 1/2 sae socket to remove retaining nut , after that ues a hard block of wood and strike that with hammer ( NEVRE STRIKE CV END WITH ANYTHIN METAL OR VERY HARD),at this point cv should be loose ,seperate cv from bearing hub you may also have to remove tie rod end to swing it out.ok thats it in a nut shell good luck hope it helps you.
Sounds like worn tie rod ends. The wobble usually reduces in intensity or quits when you lift your foot off the accelerator nut resumes when you apply power again. With tie rod end replacement you will need a front end alignment as they are part of the adjustment.
ok, Tie rods don't have boots. The only thing up front with a boot is the CV joint. You have to use a cutter to remove the bands from a CV joint however, unless your trying to repair the joint you don't want to do that. There is no lubrication point inside the boot you need to reach. If for some reason you need to remove that boot you need to get a CV joint Boot Repair kit to do this as it will have replacement bands to use in the repair. Because of the nature of a CV joint and it's importance to operating correctly I don't recommend trying to do a Joint repair on your own. On the Tie Rod typically you will replace the out end. You need to have a tie Rod puller to remove the tie rod end off the "A" frame after you have released the lock nut in the center then simply unscrew the tie rod end. You'll want to make sure you mark the old tie rod somehow so you can put beside the new part and mark it so you know how far to screw that in so the Alignment matches, as close as possible. The tie rod puller is a special tool you can get from Auto Zone to remove the Tie rod end from the "A" frame.
This is hard to diagnose without more details, but I would suspect the cv joint. Tie rods will not normally clunck constantly. Both can break - a cv joint is not dangerous, but a tie rod breaking is. Worth having a shop check it out.
Purchase tie rod ends that are specific to your Honda model and year, for tie rod ends vary from model year to model year. The tie rod ends often come with nuts and cotter pins (glorified bobby pins).
Loosen the lug nuts on the front tires, but don't remove them. Jack up your vehicle, then support it securely on jack stands. Remove the tires.
Use a wrench or piers to loosen the outer tie rod's locking nut, but do so by only 1/8th of a turn. Mark the tie rod end's position on the threaded portion of the tie rod with paint or a marker.
Take out the cotter pin or key and use a wrench or pliers to loosen and remove the castellated nut from the outer tie rod end's spindle.
Separate the tie rod and the steering knuckle with a tie rod puller.
Grasp the tie rod with a wrench while you screw off the tie rod end. Make sure you keep track of the number of turns it takes to remove it, and write that number down. It'll help you when you install the replacement tie rod end.
Replace the Tie Rod End
Put a coat of anti-seize compound on the threaded portion of the tie rod end, and screw on the lock nut for the tie rod end.
Screw on the tie rod end, making sure you do it in the same number of turns as it took to remove the original tie rod end (see Section One, Step 6).
Slip the tapered end of the tie rod end into the steering knuckle and tighten the castellated nut to 29 to 35 foot pounds. If your tie rod end doesn't come with a castellated nut, tighten that nut to 32 foot pounds.
Install the new cotter pin and tighten the tie rod end's lock nut. Repeat Sections 1 and 2 for the other tie rod end.
Reinstall the tires, tighten the lug nuts and get the Honda aligned.
You will need to replace the entire CV axle. Loosen the axle nut, loosen the lug nuts, lift the car, remove the wheel, remove the axle nut, undo the tie rod end to free the steering knuckle, tap the axle out of the hub, then pry the other end of the axle out of the transmission. When putting the new axle in place, take care not to damage the transmission seals or the hub seals.
Not to bad you will need a ball joint spreader. some sockets wrench's.prybar.Remove the tire then loosen cv bolt. Remove brake caliber and bracket.re move ball joint nut.Remove steering rod nut.Get the ball joint spreader an remove steering rod then remove the ball-joint.Take the cv bolt off grab the strut and pull outward .With a rubber mallet knock cv out of housing.The remove from transmission.you my have pry a little.
you must remove or slide the inner tie rod boot outward on the rod and then thread the tie rod out of the steering rack. there is a section of the tie rod on the inside of the ball joint that has flat spots to get a open end wrench onto. to check your tie rods, simply jack the wheel off of the ground, grab the either side of the tire, and wiggle it towards and away from you. if you feel any play at all the tie rods must be replaced. also a god indication is when the front tires start to wear excessivly on the inside or outside edges.
as for the cv axle, it has a retainer ring on the end of the splined shaft. all thats reqired is to seat the splines in the transaxle (transmission) and the tap (shouldnt take too much) the outer end of the axle with a mallet or hammer. it will pop into place.
