Hi ' If you changed the battery and alternator,
Check the voltage at the red wire on the alternator. if there a less than 12 volt.
Check the fuse link, that goes in the starter positive bolt.
If the fuse is bad replace and recheck the charging system.
IF charging normal. good.
If not, che the fuse in the fuse box, "" cluster".
If the fuse is blow out, replace. and check again.

OK. I hope this work for you.

Ireplaed my battery becuz my battery light came on..Now i have put the new one in ,the light is stil coming on????Why..Could it be my alternator????

Yep. You need to test the alternator. Get a multi-meter to do this. Start the car, then set the meter to 20 volts on the dial. Take the red lead and touch the positive terminal on the alternator, then take the black lead and touch a ground on the engine block (not on the alternator). If the alternator is good you should get a reading between 13 and 14 volts (13.8-14.2 to be exact. If you get a reading lower than 13 volts, then the alternator is no good. If you get a reading 15 volts or above then the voltage regulator in the alternator is no good. Have someone rev the engine to about 2500 rpms after your first test on the alternator and get a second reading. If you get the same results, the alternator is no good. You can take the alternator to a electronics shop (who fix alternators), and probably save about 80 bucks. If time is an issue then just buy a new one.

Battery drains while sitting

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12.5 volts or better after charging.
3. Hook up battery positive cable, then with your multimeter on the milliamp scale connect one lead to the negative battery post and the other lead to the ground cable. Meter should read 3 milliamps or less, 10 milliamps with a radio, 15 milliamps with radio and CB. If your meter reads higher you need to isolate the circuit by pulling fuses and circuit breakers one at a time and observe meter for drop in aprerage then get out your test light and track down the short in that circuit.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at "BOTH" ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v while cranking replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor.

Jaguar 1999 XJ8L battery won't start unless I

This problem could be a number of things. Let's start buy checking for light bulbs that are not going out when car is shut off, such as under hood lid, under trunk lid, inside of car that are hard to see, such as lights that usually stay on till you leave car but normally go of after a few seconds. You can tell buy waiting a while, they will be hot to touch. If this is so this is your problem.
Next check alternator, get an ohm meter, start car, set ohm meter to about 20 volts, and with car running put ohm meter cables red to positive of battery and black to negative of battery. This test should let you know if alternator is working and good if reading is between 13- 14.50 volts, if you do your alternator is good,if not alternator is problem.
Next check the battery with ohm meter. With ohm meter set the same way to 20 volts, and car off , put red lead to positive post and black lead to negative post . Your reading should be 12-12.50 volts. If reading is low 9-10 volts then the final test would be a load test. You may have to go to your mechanic, or a battery dealer for this one because not everyone has a load tester. This test will tell you if you need a new battery. They will know right away. Your problem could be a bad battery. All the above tests are for DIY. If you are not able to perform these tests yourself then go to a battery dealer they will do tests for you. GOOD LUCK.

On a 2000 expedition multi meter on battery while vehicle is running reads 7.5 car is dying little by little battery draining .. suspect alternator ?

Go to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. You would need to catch the voltage before it goes across the battery to know how much the regulator is sending to the battery. If the battery is that bad you are only measuring battery voltage and not alternator output.

Since most regulators are inside the newer alternators you will need to physically open the alternator to replace the regulator or buy a new alternator. If the battery is rapidly dying you are probably correct about the alternator. Usually a battery at 10 volts will hold 10 volts when it is getting a 14.2 volt boost to its good cells. Not drop like yours is doing.

Do an alternator test, boost car and with volt meter test at battery, remove jumper cable, reading at battery with car running should be about 13.5-14.5 volts, if you dont have that bad alternator

Your alternator is going bad. It should only put out 13-14 volts and therefore is overcharging your battery. This causes your battery to get a dead cell. If you replace the alternator and battery, make sure you check the cables for any shorts.

Check that connections are clean and check battery voltage with a meter...If battery has less than 12v in it, likely you have a bad alternator.
