Radio sound low and squeeky, works good in summertime

The volume control on your radio is called a potentiometer, which may be going bad. It works better when its warm because materials expand as they warm up and make tighter contact with each other.

It is also a possible a bad wiring connection exists. Poor contact will cause static, poor audio quality and intermittent output.

Your radio will have plug type connector(s) Your speakers will most likely each have two wires with single female spade connectors of different widths (keeps the polarity correct) the wire with the stripe (of whatever color) will be connected to the negative (-) speaker terminal.

So you need to check all the connections, one is making poor contact.
If both speakers (assuming you have two) sound good or bad... then start with the plug connectors for the radio and any independent black ground wire coming out of the radio.

If one speakers sounds okay check the connections on the other one. You check the connections by carefully pulling the speaker wire off of the speaker and then carefully pushing it back on making sure it feels tight and secure.

PS: If you pull the fuse for the radio, the radio will have no power and will not work. The radio coming on proves the fuse is good.

PSS: Your owners manual should provide lots of information on your sound system components.

My 2007 corolla radio has no sound

Just had this problem. Radio comes on, no sound (or it would make a loud static sound if you hit the radio or ramdomly on it's own), everything else is fine, display, CD works etc.. So I bought an identical used replacement radio on ebay, still not working and the same problem.

Then I found a post that suggested looking in the trunk and found that one of the plastic terminals for the wires on the rear speaker had broken off. Wiggled it, and the radio came on.
Problem? Stuffing too much junk in the trunk caused the problem, it snapped the plastic clip where the speaker wire is soldered in (connection was in fact still good), and then it shorted.

Hope that helps.

I have a Mercedes CLK 430 and the radio, cd, nav comes on but I do not hear anything. Occasionally I hear some 'crackling' from the speakers even though I've turned off the radio. It use to...

In the fuse box under the hood, fuses 3, 6, 7, 10, and 12 are all directly related to the sound system. In the trunk, fuses 3, 6, and 7 are also directly related to the sound system. Please check all the fuse.

And also unplug the CD changer's power and fiber cable and then recheck the radio.

Yesterday my radio was working fine, and then this morning when i went to go to work it won't turn on. If you press the CD eject button the CD comes our or if you press the time button it shows the time.

There are two supplies to a car radio, 12volt ignition and 12v perm live.
sounds like you have lost the 12v igniton as only the basic functions opperate, check for fuse either on the fuse box, accessory fuse, (sometimes marked as 'radio') or on the back of the radio for an inline fuse.

Radio switches between AM, FM, and CD

Check fuse no. 18(20 amp) in the under dash fuse panel. This is the fuse that keeps power to radio at all times to keep memory alive.
