Question about 1992 Honda Accord

1 Answer

Harmonic balancer hi, my brother( who's a certified tech.) and I are replacing my timing belt on my 91 honda prelude. We pretty have everything off needed except the harmonic balancer. In which we broke the part of the pulley that you put the special tool on to hold the crank from moving. We only have a compressor that puts out 135psi and cant get it off. Have already tried heating the bolt up to a degree of no damage to the crank. Is there anything else we can do.

You can use a strap wrench and an impact wrench; both are usually rentable from an auto parts store. A puller can usually be rented also.

Replacing the cam seal. You had to pull the timing belt. Because you had to remove the cam gear. This is where the problem is. Reset the timing and follow the manual to exact procedures. I recommend you replace all the timing components. Also, when you set the timing belt tensioner, Pry on it to get maximum tension. Before you put it together, turn the crank shaft two full turns (by hand/wrench/socket. Make sure it is on the marks. then reassemble.

Harmonic balancer /water pump

most water pumps I believe have a weep hole that drips out coolant basically letting the person owning the car know that it is time to change the water pump. but then again have you checked to see if the water pump hoses are secure and aren't cracked?

Wanting to replace the timing belt on a 95 accord with V-Tec 2.2 engine. How do you get the plastic guard over the harmonic balancer without pulling?

You are not able to.... it must come off.... The harmonic balancer keeps the belt in a groove so it can't jump time.... use a good impact to get off the balancer....

Wheel vibrations at 75+ mph

Most computer controlled tire balancing machines which are in use today only balance tires to between 65/70 miles an hour. To get them balanced to a higher speed you might want to call a few auto performance shops and see if they balance tires to a higher speed. At higher speeds it takes very little in the way of an off balanced tire to really set up a vibration so shake.

Wheel bearing?

If it is a howling noise it is most likely your bearing (kinda sounds like an airplane)

You should also check the tires for broken belts and bulges. As well as that they are properly balanced.

Crankshaft pulley (harmonic balancer) removal- disconnect neg battery cable, remove belts, it would be a good idea to soak the bolt w/ penetrating oil overnight, there is a special 'crankshaft pulley holding tool' available to secure the pulley while removing and installing the bolt. Some parts stores loan tools for free if u purchase parts from them, I don't know if this is available, but it would be worth checking out. Attach holding tool and remove bolt securing pulley. Carefully remove pulley from crankshaft, Do NOT pry off. Remove key from crankshaft sprocket,
Install: install key on crankshaft sprocket, slide pulley on, apply clean oil to bolt threads but NOT to washer contact surfaces, secure crankshaft w/ holding tool, tighten to 159 ft lbs (91-93 Accord), install belts, re-attach neg cable.
