Question about 2003 BMW Z4

1 Answer

Loss of all power (total loss of accelerator ]) lots of management lights during driving

Its my sisters car but this is the second time it has happened, the first time the BMW dealer couldn't work out what was wroing even with the fault management and said it had not happened anywhere before under warranty they replaced CPU its now happened again. She was driving on motorway no warning loads of lights come on and the engine just loses all powere jsut as if you had taken your foot completely off the accelerator, acceleraot does nothing. had to wind to hard shoulder.

Long story short was on way home from Holland so not best time to happen but when she touched down on land over here and tried the car again it started and was fine to drive to the dealers - anything at all appreciated as the dealer didn't have a clue last time and I dont think they really knew how to read the diagnostics - they were on the phone to BMW asking what things meant all the time! Searched net for similar problems but found nothing please help its obviously dangerous and we dont know waht to do this time if they say they cant understand it.

The purge valve is right underneath the intake manifold, it the valve that has a hard plastic hose attached to it that runs back towards the fuel tank. But I don't think that is it. I had the same problem and I changed the MAP thermostat, and the leak detection pump. Here are the codes from the OBD27cc DMTL leakage279b Thermostat map cooling
You need part number 03 Leak diagnostic pump 1 16137193479

04 Thermostat housing with thermostat 1 11537509227 $66.96

The check engine light usually comes on when there is a faulty sensor. or circuit. Sounds like you may have a faulty throttle position sensor. It would be best to have engine codes read to pinpoint exact problem area. Many part stores do this for free.

Your timing belt could be broken. You want to have this checked as soon as possible to prevent any further engine problems.
