Hi there do you have fuel pressure ? and if so what is the pressure ? when it cranks over is it cranking over smooth or a little irratic ? if its irratic not smooth then you probably jumped a few teeth on timing belt .how many miles on the motor and have you ever changed the timing belt? how did it quit while driving ? and if so how fast were you going ? if you were going fast you could have damaged valves so if you replace belt yourself do look close at the top of each piston to see if valve hit one . if so then you better let a head shop do the valves on the head , or you will end up wasting time and money ok i hope this was informative good luck let me know how it goes with a fixya rating please thanks

97 CHEVY CAVALIER INSTRUMENT CLUSTER

Hi Cari, That means there are defects in the operation of both circuits. Take the vehicle for a diagnostic scan, find out what is wrong and have them fix it. The seat belt light should be a fairly stright forward job but the air bag must be diagnosed. Regards John

1997 chevy cavalier no compression in #3 cylinder and wont start

What probably happened is that the timing chain jumped time (common problem) and bent a valve in the #3 cylinder. This will cause the no-start, no-compression issue you state. You will need to repair the timing chain/gears/tensioner and have the head removed and repaired in order to get the car back to operating order.

I have a 1996 chevy cavalier z24 manual transmission. My car cranks but wont turn on. I changed the ignition Switch with a new key. The Anti theft alarm stays on. i cut the alarm off because the horn is...

Check timing belt. Remove the oil filler cap and look at the rocker arm. If you get someone to turn the engine while you watch and you see no movement... it's a broken belt. If you see movement, perhaps the belt has slipped. Replace belt and re time.

2004 chevy cavaliar 2.2liter engine turns over but wont start. Im looking for timing belt placement.

Hello chriso201: My name is Roger and I can answer this question. The Chevrolet Cavalier 2.2 engine does not have a timing belt. This engine uses a timing chain. Check the compression if you have less then 100 psi on the cylinders I would think timing chain. Any thing over 100 the chain should be ok. I would prefer to see above 150 psi. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer you received. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

My 1997 chevy cavalier makes some stopping sound when I start my car,So can you tell me the problem? Is this because of fuel pump or injectors?

YOUR POST MAKES NO SENSE BUT IF YOU HEAR SCREECHING FROM THE ENGINE ON STARTUP YOU EITHER HAVE A BAD BELT OR BAD BELT TENSIONER.

My 1997 chevy cavalier wont start.its getting spark and fuel.but wont fire it has a 2.2 ecotec.

Sounds like cam belt has snapped. If it broke while starting, could be cheap fix...new belt. Worst case: cylinder head off for overhaul...bent valves / pistons replaced.

Start problems chevy cavalier z-24 1898

You would need to check to make sure you have spark coming from the coil. Make sure you have fuel spraying from the fuel pressure valve. Make sure the distributor cap is not damaged and you have the correct timing set for the spark plugs, consult owners manual.
