Question about 1999 Volvo S80

Volvo s80 2.9cc 1999 auto saloon

I require info on changing the auto gearbox fluid and filter on the above vehicle. i have looked underneath and can see the gearbox sump which appears shallow compared with the amount of fluid that is required to fill it, apart from the torque convertor where is the rest of the fluid. is it above the rim of the sump, if so how do i drain it, and is the filter accessable after removing the sump.

reason for changing the fluid after 7 years of use. occasionally when trying to pull away after it has warmed up the gearbox appears to be slipping for about 30yards,by increasing acceleration it overides the problem and clears it.this may not happen again for days/weeks when it drives perectly.this has been happening for about 1year now.i am hoping that the change of fluid may clear the problem. it may be that a valve gets stuck inside the gearbox.if it was the bands the fluid would be dirty..it's perfectly clean and i would think that then problem would be there every time i pull away. john

How can I fix a Nissan liberty automatic not changing gears when it gets hot

Hi sad to say this gearbox requires valve body repairs ,replacement of dextron 3 ATF fluid and filter.clutches and friction plates should be checked replaced if worn.Torque converter should be checked out.If gearbox has electronic functions a diagnostic report should be done before stripping.A conventional auto gearbox pre 2000 model could be fitted with a external modulator switch causing present fault ,over powering the above mentioned faults.

Hi,

You'll need to provide us with the following information:

- Make of vehicle
- Year of vehicle
- Engine size (e.g. 2.0L, 3.5L etc)

I suspect the low trans fluid is contributing, but we need above vehicle details to see if we can carry out some further diagnostics....

Where is the transmission dip stick, or how can i check the fluid level

if this car is AUTO the dipstick will be on the same side as the gearbox underneath the hood. clearly marked with a red (i think) coloured plastic handle you check the level with the engine running and in park. if MANUAL gearbox then look down the front of the gearbox and about half way up theres a hexagon drive level plug - 8mm allen key hex i think - remove this and fill till oil runs out with engine off.

Change the transmission oil on an automatic gearbox ? Suzuki vitara

drain the fluid just as you would change the engine oil. Go ahead and change the filter at the same time-you will have to remove the tranny drain pan. You can get the filter and fluid from Auto Zone and they can advise what fluid and how much. Filter should come with new gasket.

2000 Volvo V70 (B5244S) - what transmission service/fluid needed

Do you have an Automatic tranny With 4 speed (AW4), or an Automatic With 5 speed (AW5) With a "Flush & Change" there is no reason to drop pan and change filter...the flush and change does it without removing any parts. I would stick with your "in-town guy"!
