Re: repair cut convertible top
It probably can be, but I'm not sure whether it'll give you the same protection as before, unless done professionally by someone who can sew each layer of the top individually and correctly. Either an automotive upholstery shop or (believe it or not) a boat repair shop are probably your best bets.

That depends upon how thick the foam insulation is. That is the only way to compute from cubic feet to square feet.
To simplify, assume the foam is 1 foot wide by 1 foot thick by 51 feet long. That is 51 cubic feet of foam. If you slice the block lengthwise at 1 inch intervals, you get 12 slices, each 1 foot wide by 51 feet long by 1 inch thick. This is 51 square feet of coverage at 1 inch. You would be able to cover 51x12, or 612 square feet.
Increase the thickness of the slice to 1-1/2 inches, you only get 8 slices, or coverage for 408 square feet.
Any thicker than that, and you won't get enough coverage for 400 square feet.
Hi, a cubic metre is a measure of volume, a square metre is a measure of area. you need to know length and width as well as depth. eg; imagine a cube is 1 metre wide by 1 metre deep by 1 metre high, this is 1 cubic metre, if you sliced this cube into 10cm slices it would cover 10m2. if you sliced it into 5cm slices it would cover 20m2. You need to cut a small piece of the plastic liner at the bottom. cut about 1/4 inch of just the plastic. not the liner. If you score the plastic half way through then you can snap it off. I put a little glue on the fabric so it does not unravel. THen you need to use a plastic hammer and a piece of wood or plastic and snap the liner back in. It fits in a channel and needs to be snapped in and work your way around until it is all snapped in.
Dear Kevin, check fuses each seat has it,s own fuse. Use a multi meter and check for continuity in both seat and back cushions. Have repaired several hundred lower grids, usually the grid wire breaks at the outer edge from sliding in and out of the seat. If both grids are good try switching l/s switch for r/s. Grids can be repaired by cutting out burnt wire and resoldering ends back together again. This is very thin 30 to 35 guage aluminuim wire about 6 strands. Use electrical solder and a soldering gun. Soldering is the easy part, removing the seat material and locating the grid, some models have grids glued to seat foam, others are sewn into seat covers. This is a nice Sat. job. Kirk fe6fc
Your glass was originally heat sealed to the top material. If the delamination area is small, you may be able to refasten it with urethane adhesive. The same stuff that glass shops use to glue windows to metal. If the delamination has progressed farther than 4-6 inches, you need a new top.
Don't bother with a glass shop, they don't do convertibles. Talk to a convertible top or auto upholstery shop.

it realy matters if v8 or 6. a v8 is about 30 inches wide, has an aluminum top that is similar to a barell sliced in half longwise [alum color of course] laying cut side down. a 6 [assume U.S.] is rather narrow at the top and has a sheet metal valve cover that is black, also there will be a black rubber pipe,about 6 inches in diameter that goes from engine to the left[drivers view] fender.
I'm not sure if it is exactly the same problem or not. In my case the glass detached/unglued, on both sides, from the strip that is sewn to the top. I used Clear RTV Silicone Adhesive and Sealant made by ProSeal and purchased at Harbor Freight.
Be careful not use acrylics . Even though they will water proof, they become brittle with temperature changes. You want and adhesive that remains flexible.
Unfortunately, this is not something you can fix yourself. You will need to take the car to either the dealer or a shop which specializes in fixing convertible tops, headliners, etc (commonly called an automotive trim shop) Most used car dealers have a trim shop that they can recommend.
