My 2004 Liberty with command-trac 4wd does same thing. With engine off I moved lever to 4 HI so I could clean the boot. Now 4 HI dash indicator light is on when in 2wd (off) position and off when in 4 HI position. 4WD system appears to be working, just the indicator functions opposite of what it is supposed to. It behaves as if electrical switch controlling indicator is broken or out of alignment, however I don't know where/how to fix it.

On the transfer case there is a vacuum switch, check to see if there is any of the vaccum lines may have gotten crossed or the switch may be just defective

possible 4wd selector switch problem. 1st try unhooking battery for 10 min, then rehook and start engine, attempt shifting into 4wd and see if it clears up. could be multiple different things causing this, as the 4wd system is computer controlled, and electronically engaged.

1992 Pajero 4wd system attempts to engage randomly, 4wd indicator lights blink

Whenever this warning light or any other stays on in the dash it is indicating that the systems control module (or the system sensor in the case of lights like low oil pressure, door open indicators etc.) has detected a fault, it then disables the system (this applies to ABS,TCS, TCM, SRS, TPMS and BCM faults and others) as long as the light is on. You must now have the dealer hook up a special electronic diagnostic tool and "scan" the system for the fault code that is stored for the problem(s)

Legend of Abbreviations. ABS Anti-lock brake system. TCS Traction control system, TCM Transmission control module, SRS Supplemental restraint system, BCM Body control module. TPMS Tire Pressure Monitor System

Front end will not lock in in 4x4 transfer case is in & dash lite shows 4x4 but front wheels don;t lock in

Ok, this is probably going to sound greek if you have no automotive experiance, so here goes:

There are 2 possibilities I can think of at the moment depending on your 4wd system, however there are several things that can cause this

If you have a Push button 4wd (you push a button or turn a knob) the system engages using actuators or sylinoids meening you turn the 4wd on, the switch sends power to the selector option (high and low) and the 4wd light on the dash. the selector determines where the actuator/silenoid engages (either high or low) in the transfer case. However the actuator or silenoid can be faulty and yet the system will say 4wd is on because the switches still sending power to the 4x4 light

The next setup is the manual linkage set up, and given the year of your kia I doubt you have this setup However I am going to go through it anyway.

With a maual linkage setup you engage the trasfer case maualy using the 4wd shifter. Ironically on newer manual shift 4wd systems the dash light is still triggered electrically by location of the shifter not what is going on in the transfer case (Ah a flaw in the design) So if you linkage is loose/bent/damaged or somehow disconnected your 4wd wont engage but the light will still show that it is! Hope this helps

4 wd will not engage ,indicator lights on dash do not light

If its not engaging into 4 WD the vaccum actulator is more than likely stuck. The actulator is located on the front of the axle next to the the front gear hub it will have a plastic cover over it. Unbolt the two 10mm bolts that hold the cover on and spray down with WD-40, also pull back the rubber cover thats on the actulator staff and spray it. You might have to hit the staff a few times to get it to move just make sure its in 4WD. I had the same problem, that part is exposed to alot of water, snow, salt and so on. Or you could just replace it but its cheaper to spray it down with WD-40

I found the TSB and Title but unfortunately it will not allow me to access it for some reason. This might give you something to show them when you talk to them again. Hope this helps!

4wd not engaging no indicater lgt basicaly no 4wd

I had a prolem with my 1998 Ford Explorer XLT. The 4wd indicator light would randomly start to blink while moving and when I flipped the switch to 4wd hi or low it would engage but easily disengage and the indicator lights would not come on. I was hearing a grinding sound coming from my hubs so I replaced both front hub assemblies and the light stopped blinking and 4wd hi/low works great now. it was about 300 bucks for the hub assemblies and only took me an hour or two to change.
