remove headlight and watersand with 1500 grit and buff or spray with clearcoat

  • Anonymous Jan 26, 2009

I have an 88 'Stang. The headlight lenses were yellowed and nasty looking. A body shop friend of mine said to buff the lenses ( on the outside) with a 1400 grit or 1600 grit sanding paper and the yellow would scale off like dead skin. IT the lenses look much better.

But, my lenses have moisture inside of them, how do you remedy that problem?

There should be 3 or 4 little plastic nuts in the back of the headlights if you can loosen them up until they come off the headlights should be able to slide right out.

Need to replace "foggy" lenses

Normally those can be restored with a clean up kit available at the parts store. It is only around $20 and can be done easily at home. Much cheaper than the $200-$400 you will spend on replacement headlight assemblies....Mike

1998 ford contour headlights foggy how do i fix it

They sell a kit to do this. Me personally use wet sand paper. First use 400 grit and wet sand it, then 800, then 1200 and then 2000.Sand each stage until the yellow color disapperas out of the water. Follow up with a good polish like Eagle One or Mothers. End result is like new as long as your inside of your lense has not turned milky or cloudy.

Please rate my answer...............Thanks

My headlights keep burning out, both bright and normal. They seem to be shorting out and it's getting expensive. Right after I replace one, the other one burns out! My lens covers are also no longer clear,...

If both lenses are foggy chances are your bulbs are acting like fuses and when wet/damp blowing, reseal with silicon,or replace lenses.(when lenses get foggy it is also a sign that the chrome has oxidised.)

Foggy headlight lens replace driver door mirror

Foggy headlight lens is from water ingress and gets trapped in there, the easiest way for you is to unscrew the back of the headlight assembly and get a hair drier and just dry out the head light, it may come back after a few rains,, other wise undo the screw holding the headlight unit, disconect wires and remove unit, I have the submerged unit into water watching where air bubbles come from then apply a small bead of water proof flexible sealand or silastic around the edge where the cover and lense meet, Dont try to take the lense off you will break something. Dry out completly and use hair dryer agin on low setting to make sure all moisture is gone and reassemble back onto vehicle....

check once more the front turn bulbs, connections, fuse if front and rear have a separate one. Once you connect the front turn signal, blinking frequency should normalize.

1991 mustang headlight lense replacement

This is not so easy. The headlights themself are sepaerate from the inner and outer lights making it a total of six piece setup. The headlights have two nuts towards the middle and one towards the outside, I believe they were around a 12mm if I remember correctly. After the three nuts are off each headlight then it comes right out. It may get hung up on the marker lights when pulling it out, if it does then just take the nuts off that light as well and remove it the same way. Hope this helps.

automotive paint buffing compound will give a smooth finish, but you will need to apply it with a rotary buffer or you will be at it all day.
