Check battery light comes on when driving and disappears when idling at a stoplight. Also sometimes flickers when driving. Problem started 2 days ago. The battery is a year old and a new alternator was put in about 2 1/2 years ago. What could be causing this???

simple test
start the engine and let idle
if idles ok , then put you foot on the brake
if it stalls ---replace the faulty brake booster
as with all faults in a cars
have the fault codes read first to avoid unnecessary waste of time and cash
Check all your ground wires. There will be several wires connecting ultimately to the negative side of the battery. Usually at least 2 wires are connecting the body of the vehicle to the negative side of the battery. Generally, the lights are grounded to the body which is grounded either to the engine block or directly to the battery.
it may be caused by the low idle clean the throttle body also check the idle air control valve. the alternator is not spinning fast enough to produce rite amount of volts to your lights.
Yes it sounds like the alternator voltage regulator is wearing down and needs to be changed or replaced.
If you can get your hands on a 12 volt multimeter, turn the setting to 20 dc and place the negative wire on the negative battery post and the positive wire on the positive battery post.
The battery with motor off should be 12.6 volts and higher, start the the car the read out should be 14.,2 or higher.
You can turn the lights and heater on to see if the alternator can cope with the load.
if read out is less then you need to change or replace it.
Check the belt tensioner and the idle pulley... (looks just like the pulley on the tensioner, but bolts straight in.).. - from experience...my single pulley was bad... after replacing the tensioner TWICE... (duhh!!)
have your idle speed sensor cleaned, also checkd the air flow sensor located in the air cleaner housing, you best bet is to have it scanned for PCM soft codes(codes that wont turn on the check engine light on)
