Are you pressing the brake pedal when you switch gears? If you are, there might be a problem with the transmission. Go to your car dealer using a different car and tell them to look at it. Or just use a tow truck and tow it to a mechanic.

Speedometer dose not work in my 1993 chevy extended cab 2WD

check the cable first. It connects into the driver side rear of the transmission tail. Remove the cable from the transmission...
you shoud see a short section that was farther into the trans, and that piece will go into a small plastic gear.
check those for damage.
the end of the cable should spin freely with fingers.
if not spinning, broken off, or the plastic gear is damaged, it's a pretty easy fix.

This transmission is controlled by a computer, have that tested for fault codes first then move from there based on the findings.

The speedometer is not reading at al and at the same time it won't upshift out of low gear

two problems you may have.one is the speedometer sensor may not be working thus the transmission won`t know what gear its suppose to be in.the other is the transmission may have gone into back up mode as the tcm may have detected a transmission problem.have the tcm and the pcm checked for codes to help find the problem.

Cannot find tranny oil fill plug for 1995 ford Escort

LEVEL CHECK -manual transmission The vehicle speed sensor (speedometer gear), which is located on the transaxle, serves as the manual transaxle's dipstick.
  1. Park the car on a level surface, turn the engine OFF and apply the parking brake.
  2. Locate the speedometer cable assembly where it enters the transaxle.
  3. Unplug the electrical connection from the vehicle speed sensor (speedometer gear).
  4. Disconnect the speedometer cable from the speed sensor.
  5. Wipe the area around the speed sensor with a clean rag, then loosen the speed sensor retaining bolt.
  6. Gently pry the speed sensor from the transaxle. Fig. 1: Location of the manual transaxle's fluid level marks — 1.8L engine 90981g14.gif
Fig. 2: Location of the manual transaxle's fluid level marks — 1.9L and 2.0L engines 90981g15.gif

  7. Check the condition of the speed sensor O-ring and replace it if it is damaged.
  8. Check the fluid level on the speed sensor as illustrated.
  9. If the level is low, place a funnel in the speed sensor hole.
  10. Add the specified fluid to the transaxle until the FULL level is reached. Do not overfill the transaxle.
  11. Install the speed sensor and tighten the retaining bolt to 69–104 inch lbs. (8–12 Nm).
  12. Connect the speedometer cable.
  13. Engage the speed sensor electrical connection. Fig. 3: If necessary, add transmission fluid through a funnel into the speed sensor opening 90981g16.gif

Car acts like it is changing gears from time to time

There will be a dipstick at the back of the motor, should be on the left side near the brake system. The car should be warm and placed in drive with e brake engaged. Pull dipstick out and look for the warm mark. The fluid should be at that level.
