This is pretty easy. You first have to remove the skid plate which is held on by three bolts then once you have that done you need to disconnect the fuel fill tube. which is the three inch tube coming off the back of the tank. next remove the breather tube right next to the fill tube. then you will see two metal straps holding the tank itself. their should be one bolt each on the ends you can see. dont worry about the other ends they are a tongue and groove type setup. once you have the one side off the side against the frame will slip right off. Be sure to have a jack under the tank so it dosnt drop on you. but once you have the tank down disconnect the pump by turning on the ring that runs around its top. You may have to put a piece of wood on one of the tines and smack it with a hammer to knock it loose. once that is done jack up the rear driver side of your truck and pull the tank right ou. put it back in, in the reverse order.

Fuel engine stops then start up in 1 min

You probably have an electronic ignition system to go with those fuel injectors. It sounds like it runs just long enough to empty the fuel out of the injectors, which means there might be a vacuum problem. I'm a carburetor person myself. Are you sure it sound like it NEEDS gas or could it be flooding?

EXPLORER SOUNDS LIKE TRACTOR

Check the oil, if it has water in it you have a blown head gasket, if not then You have one or more cylinders misfiring, get a tune up. then if it's still doing it you probably have burned or sticking valves.

I have a 1999 Ford Explorer, it runs great then will **** like it is out of gas, then it will stall. when i try turning over it sputters and shakes and never really gets started then stalls again. If it...

It may sound really stupid, but the fuel itself may be the issue... have you put any gasoline conditioners in the tank? Do you typically run with a full tank or empty tank (water condensing in the fuel tank) -- do not forget in the future that the fuel quality sucks these days - small engines, especially 2 cycle are getting eaten up by ethanol and the fuel itself is breaking down rapidly!!
Alternatively, the fuel tank cap may be an issue.Otherwise, the fuel filter, then the fuel pump (test the fuel pressure) - this is pretty much the least to most expensive ways to begin... In all appearances is has to do with the fuel in one way or another...
PS: Good job in putting the problem in writing with details.
Best regards
Ck

the anti theft does not shut the fuel off, it disables the starter motor, so the problem u have is a failing fuel pump, this most often happens on trucks lke yours at around 100,000 miles.
