Oil pumps can cost from $80 to $200. It all depends on which vehicle you have.
HOW TO CHANGE You have to pull the oil pan. To do that you often have to lift the engine. Unfortunately, oil pumps are about the least often part of an engine to go bad. If you have low oil pressure it's probably...
Do you need to replace the oil pan it self or just the oil pan seal? This can been a DYI job, depending on your experience working with cars. You will need a your basic tools. (Jack Stands, Jack, Oil Container, wrenches and sockets, new oil and filter.) The first thing you will need to do is drain the oil. This is a good time to change your oil since you will be taking the oil pan completely off. Steps to removing oil pan 1) Set car on jack stands or ramps in order to work under the car. (Be Safe, Be Smart!) 2) You will need a wrench or socket to remove oil drain plug and drain the oil out of the car -This is a good time to change your oil, so replace oil filter as well. 3) Once the oil is drained you can take of the oil pan off. Most oil pans are just bolted. Not to hard to take of. 4) Once off this is a good time to clean the oil pan if your just replacing the gasket. Do not use lubricant cleaners like wd-40. Brake cleaner has worked for me, you can also ask your local auto shop or autozone for a good cleaner. 5)Replace the oil pan with new gasket making sure there are no tears in gasket and it sits well between the oil pan and engine block. (Make sure there is nothing in the oil pan as well that could cause harm) 6) once you replaced the oil pan its just as simple as putting oil back into your car like you are changing your oil.
Do you mean the oil level sensor was replaced, or do you mean the oil pressure sending unit was replaced?
If it was the oil pressure sensor was replaced, then I would look into an oil pump going bad, not supplying enough pressure to the oil pressure sensor. This can be tested by putting an oil pressure gauge into where the oil pressure sensor normally goes, bypassing the circuitry that leads to the dash light for the oil pressure.
If it was the oil level sensor, then check for bad wiring.
Your best bet will be to go to a salvage yard and take one off one of the Neons there, with permission from the owners. Just any plug won't do. The bore size and threadding have to be exact, or the pan will leak.
Raise the vehicle off the ground and support with jack stands(both front wheels off the ground), chock the wheels, buy and oil change drain pan and a oil filter strap wrench for that filter application(parts store will supply the proper wrench), have available a set of box wrenches 1/2"-3/4".
Purchase the proper replacement oil filter, and oil, be careful not to overfill the oil check the level after filling three quarts in crankcase, also only hand tighten the oil filter, and be sure the drain pan bolt has a gasket on it and it is tightened securely.
there is a motor mount that attaches frum the passenger side wheel to the tming cover. this is the mount that usually goes bad. you have to remove the wheel to see the torx bolt at the wheel well. than there are bolts on the other side of the wheel well. after you get those the ones at the motor have to be removed. you will have to place a jack under the oil pan use a piece of wood with the jack. you also have to take the top mount of first. thats pretty easy to replace.
