GOT THE SAME PROBLEM. SWITCH SEEMS TO DO NOTHING

  • Matt Apr 01, 2012

There is a collar around the gearstick which you have to lift up/push down (can't quite remember) at the same time you pull in the button. Just pushing/pulling the button will not do anything.

The hill descent switch wires have broken off on the switch.Pull down the gear lever cover and remove the micro switch ,solder the wires back on and refit.

Freelander is permanent 4 wheel drive. The switch on the gear lever is for downhill decent control. These are usually diconnected when there is a problem with one of the ABS wheel sensors not working, causing three warning lights on the dash to display. Google Freelander Three Amigos.

Trans flashes F4 an will no change gears

The transmission in this truck is computer controlled so what must be done 1st is to have the control module scanned for fault codes so you can make sense of what area needs to be diagnosed and repaired to cure the problem. Right now you are locked in failure mode strategy or limp as some call it.
