Either you have a bad O2 sensor or the screen in your CAT could be clogged.

Well now its still not so simple you coud have other problems including the egr valve sticking sometimes, i have two suggestion for you to try. first clean the internal parts of the EGR valve must remove it and press the valve open in case its stuck. then clean the O2 sensor take it out and spray it weith carb cleaner. also check your plugs on bank 2 see if any are fowled out. clean and gap them then put it all back together reset the code and drive it for a while to see if light comes back on, if it does the are two more items in the egr system to be cleaned. one on the throttle body one in vacume system try this and i have had this work many times for me to save myself money and fix the automobile.

To get accurate MPG fill up tank, reset counter, drive till 1/4 or almost empty dont matter, and then fill up again, divide the number of gallons into the total miles driven and you have ur correct MPGs.

Check the Butterfly valve screws on the VIOS system (i think thats the name) its on the left side of the top intake manifold. 3 bolts hold it in. Remove them. You can disconnect the valve hose if its in the way but pull the VIOS back then up at an angle (GETTING It in is harder but do(able)) check to make sure the butterfly vavle screws are all there. These are said to cause precat failures on the 2.5s according to my buddy. The 3.5 has the same type of system.

BTW that P code is usually caused by a bad O2 sensor or bad cats. The sensors are not cheap but can be tested. I would have all your sensors tested. I think the 2002 3.5 have (same as me) has only 2-3 sensors. right after the precats and one after the downpipe i think.
Hope that helps....

It won't hurt to drive it for a while. You may experience some power loss or surging, but it probably won't pass inspection, if you have one in your state.

THINGS TO ASK YOURSELF OR YOUR CUSTOMER

Have there been any driveability or performance issues with the vehicle, have there been any recent repairs or tune-up work performed, if so was the check engine light reset and were the codes recorded on previous repair orders.

Do not rely on scan tool data alone. In most applications, the customer will have the check engine light reset prior to repair. If the original cause of converter failure is intermittent, only the catalyst failure code may show up

Code of PO174 1 system too lean (bank 1) Code PO420 Catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 1) Code PO430 Catalyst efficiency below threshold (bank 2)

hi,my friend, you can try,

Check for exhaust leaks at the manifold, pipes, catalytic converter. Repair as required.

Use a scope to diagnose the oxygen sensor operation (Tip: The oxygen sensor in front of the catalytic converter normally has a fluctuating waveform. The waveform of the sensor behind the converter should be more steady).

Inspect the downstream heated oxygen sensor (HO2), replace if necessary

Replace the catalytic converter

2003 lincoln ls what does the codes 420 and 430 mean

PO420--Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank1)
PO430-- " " " " " (Bank2)

O2 Sensor
Coolant Temp Sensor
High Fuel Pressure
Bad Converter
Thermostat
Etc

Owning a 2004 V8 myself--I will say your need to go thru the entire engine, as to how it is running
It may be overheating due to coil misfires or other issues and ruined the
converter

You need to solve all issues before replacing a converter
I would stay far away from a dealer, unless you have a couple thousand to spend

How repair replace part for code p183,p420,p430,p462

PO183--Engine Fuel Temp Sensor,Verify PID Value
PO420---Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold (Bank1),O2 Sensors,Coolant Temp Sensor,Misfiring,etc
PO430--- Catalyst (Bank2)
PO462---Fuel Level Sensor Circuit Low Input,pump module,etc

Well----Codes do not tell you what part to replace,Just that a possible system failure has ocurred
Unless you have a scanner, not a code reader and a trouble chart, your done.
No experience,done

I would speculate, that you only have a couple of, not too serious issues, but wouldn't guess,it doesn't work that way.
Always test, and only replace things if they fail a test.
