Question about 1998 Dodge Caravan
Hi. Getting error code P1787 Mfg. Control Transmission. Tranny is 2 years old from the factory. One day did not shift from 2-1. Now it is OK.
Here are a couple of things you can try for free if you are mechanically inclined, if you are unsure don't do this yourself.
i can't think of the exact wording for 1787 but is either shift control or torque lock up.
1)If this is the first time you have had a scanner on it since the new tranny was put in, this code could have been set when it did not shift that day, it will stay in the memory until cleared manually, if it only happened once,it could be why it did not set the check engine light.
2) Now you are going to have to get dirty,Dodge is known for having leaky connections on the tranny thus allowing fluid to get into them from the inside. Get yourself a pair of safety glasses with side sheilds, a small can of aerosol brake clean, and a can of compressed air (the kind you clean computers with) and a tube of di-electric grease.
Do this one connector at a time,PUT ON SAFETY GLASSES,disconnect then spray a little air in them to remove fluid then spray a little brake clean on them do not soak them then spray air to dry, repeat this 2 or 3 times apply a liberal amount of di-electric grease re connect
You can save yourself some money by doing this yourself or have a friend do this for you
If you want to erase the code, disconnect the negative battery cable for 30 minutes, do this while you are cleaning the connectors,
If the code comes back up,it ia probably internal
Hope this helps
