code 71 is EGR system malfunction usually a failed modulator blocked passages or a failed temperature switch at the EGR.

yes definitely, since egr results in Reduced throttling losses. The addition of inert exhaust gas into the intake system means that for a given power output, the throttle plate must be opened further, resulting in increased inlet manifold pressure and reduced throttling losses plus Reduced heat rejection. Lowered peak combustion temperatures not only reduces NOx formation, it also reduces the loss of thermal energy to combustion chamber surfaces, leaving more available for conversion to mechanical work during the expansion stroke.

2007 kia sedona vacuum leak

Before I bought the Mass Airflow Sensor, I looked up the codes again for the 2007 3.8L Kia Sedona. One listing was "massive vacuum leak". I took all the hoses and debris collectors off of the engine, and upon close inspection; the large air hose that connects the air filter to the intake manifold was dry rotted at ALL the ridges. I flexed the hose a few times and saw where the vacuum leaks were occurring. I also removed the EGR hose for inspection and found the hose was faulty as well. Since these parts are "dealer only", I used duct tape to seal the leaks as a temp fix, filled the gas tank and used fuel injector cleaner. Disconnected the neg. battery terminal, reset the codes, and the check engine light turned off. Runs like a champ now. Vehicle has 119,000 miles so I guess wear and tear like this is to be expected. New hoses from online parts dealer totaled 130.00. I got off easy I think.

My escape wasnt used for 5 days... then after travelling 10kms today, the check engine light lit, i scan it with my Scangauge II version 3.17 and got this P2188... after checking it from this site :...

When a motor is running rich it usually has a corresponding part telling it that the mix is too lean and is overreacting. You may have a Vacuum leak on the Intake manifold which will make a sensor read a lean mixture from the abundance of air. This wrong information is given to the brain which makes the mix too rich. Use a water spray bottle and mist the seams of the gasket and any Vacuum hosed parts you see. If the RPM changes on a Running engine you have found the leak. Either tighten the surrounding bolts. ATV the leaky area, or replace the gasket.

You can clean the MAF sensor in the air intake. Use an Electronics cleaner and it may help. Sometimes this sensor combines a temperature feature which can change fuelmix because of air temps. There is also a water temperature sensor for the cold start routine. This is a different sensor than for the dash gauge. Sitting unused for 5 days may have allowed it to gunk up and desensitized it. When the engine heats up the cold start routine is suppose to cancel.

I hope you find very useful information in my solution and that you can fix your problem.

1999 mazda 626 4cyl runs rough at idle , engine dies at idle. check engine light on fault code 171 looked for vacum leak none found. replaced MAF sessor no help. any ideas

You may have to dig deeper for a vacuum leak. It's possibly the intake manifold gasket. Try spraying some starting fluid around the intake manifold. Also try disconnecting the brake booster and plugging that hose, the diaphram in the booster could be ruptured, causing a vacuum leak. Check the PCV valve and hose too.

the most propable cause is you have a vacume leak. Check all intake hoses for leaks and spray brake cleaner around intake gaskets if rpms change then you found a leak also clean your mass airflow sensor

1997 Aerostar 4 liter engine has miss on several cylinders. New wires and plugs. Miss is intermintent. Usually worse under load. At times van runs fine.

check for vacume leaks on intake and other vacume hoses. random misfire is also usually a clogged fuel filter or pressure regulator. could also be a cam or knock sensor. are their any trouble codes.

Runs fine off idle but at idle with AC on the engine misfires

theres alot of 2002 chevys of different kinds but they all can get a vacume leak the 3.1 and 3.4 even the 4.3 and the 5.7 blow intake gaskets. un plug the pcv valve and the vent hose from the valve cover to the air cleaner hose. plug the holes good with tape and rags till sealed if it runs smooth ar idle then the intake is leaking. Coming into cold weather I did then as fast as I could as there was always another one in the parking lot. Leak coolant too. about half and half, some both. a few were driven too far they were blown. Plug wires and injectores dropping out will do it too. but check engine light on with codes P0300 or any code P0301-308. Vacume leak can set all kinds of stuff from map senser, cam senser Egr back pressure, ramdom cylinder miss to certain cylinder miss. and the leak will be the problem not the sensers or wires

check the pcv valve vacum lines for a leak a vacum leak will set 171 174 codes. lift the hood with engine running and listen for a air leak , check all vacum lines if no vacum leaks can be found then clean the mass air flow sensor by spraying carb cleaner directly on it for about 5 seconds. in other words take the air filter cover up and spray down the tube that leads to engine. shine a light down hose first and see if u can see the mass air flow sensor so u can get a direct hit

Check engine light and air bag light want go out

the check engine light is a reminder that the ecm has detected an electronic malfunction removing the battery cable will not clear the code unles it is a soft code. the problem is usualy the 02 sensor circuit which indicates either it is running lean or rich situation .

just before you do any thing make sure there is no vacum leaks in any of the hoses, and leak around the intake manifold or the throtle body if all these things checks ok take the vehicle to a shop where it can be tested on a scanner.
