I have a '97 Nissan Maxima(manual) and while I was on my way to work this morning, about 1/2 way there (10 min), I heard a thunk then my battery and e-brake lights came on and they never went off. My car still seemed to be driving fine, I was still able to pick up speed, shift, and my brakes seemed to work fine. When I got to work I shut the car off and sat for a min, then I started it back up and waited, the lights stayed on. What could possibly be going wrong?

That was happening to my 97 GLE as well. I wound up having to replace the alternator. Good thing I did my mechanic said it could have gone up in flames if I'd waited. I'd ask a knowlegdable mechanic or dealer first, it was $200+.

John, According to Nissan forums weak failing alternator is the common problem for bat and brk light on. If you are sure battery and alternator are good, I say check and clean battery connections and all grounds(loosen and re tighten all ground connections to give good contact), check belt for being loose.

John, I think I may have already answered this one.Check and clean battery connections and all grounds(loosen and re tighten all ground connections to give good contact), check belt for being loose. Nissan forums say it is a bad alternator.

I have a 97' Nissan Maxima, I have a trouble code # P1336ckp sensor (POS) Cog, What is the (POS) stand for?

I know you dont want to hear this but alot of these sensors are replaced when the fault lies elsewhere. A code does not always point directly at the cause. Testing needs to be performed to pinpoint the problem. With that in mind good luck.

1997 Maxima has had 4 alternators in 4 years!

Hey! I have a 97 Maxima SE and it runs great too! I have been through 4 alternators in 12 years....3 in the first 5 and finally one for the last 7. Make sure you have a new- Nissan part specific alternator. And, make sure your battery is not weak nor small for your car size. Hope this helps!

yes, a sticking brake caliper or the rubber brake line will cause it to pull when you let off the gas. I suggest replacing both calipers, brake lines and pads. That should cure the problem.

Sounds as if you need the electrical portion of the ignition switch. The contacts inside are most likely worn out.
