Question about 1995 Dodge Intrepid

Dash light problem

I resently installed a aftermarket CD(not the first one Ive done) into a chrysler intrepid. Eversince I did this the Light that illuminates the dash has stopped working everything else still works when you first turn it on it lights up but fads quikly is this the result of something I did hooking up the CD player I have never had this happen and the guy who owns the car is a little upset also I was woundering were I could find a wire diagram for this model so I can check my work

    Sorry for the delay my freind was not eager to retern my call but after a long mesg on his machine he finally called lol. The head unit is a pioneer DEH-1600 im not sure of the year. I would also like to be clear it is the light in the dash of the car not the CD player. Sorry if there was some confusion. Everything in the dash works and the interior light works only the light that illuminats the instuments in the dash is giving me problems. the reason I mentioned the CD player is becuse it stop working will I was hooking it up

    Thankyou very much im almost there. When I found the wire and it had a +12VDC Just like you suggested but I had to use a 20amp fuse not a 10amp like it had before becuse the 10amp just popped right away and with the 20 the dash still does not work. Can you help me again please

Hi,

Could you pls postback with the make and model of the aftermarket CD?

Based on your description, initially a couple of ideas to consider:
1. There are some head/CD units that has a wire attached to the dashboard illumination which of course would run by a fuse. If the new aftermarket CD does not use one, was the wire attached to something, covered with tape or left with the possibility of shorting itself to the body/chassis ground?
2. lights up but fades quickly is indicative of not constant power but uses stored charge of a capacitor, Have you checked the always on B+12 connection (in some units the yellow wire) with a DVM and verified that it is consistently +12VDC?

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

    Hi again,

    Pls check the green/white wire that goes to the old radio wiring harness as that leads to the dashboard illumination. Check if it has +12VDC when parklight switch is on. If none pls check the fuse. The fuse bank/box for the interior electrical would be on the driver side.

    A couple of things that would have to be checked:
    1. the dashboard lights works in parallel to the parklights;
    2. 10 amps fuse blowing is indicative of an earlier short;
    3. if the parklights work but the dashboard lights do not, then their is an open ciruit most probably with the wire/connector going to the dash;
    4. it is possible that the earlier short burned the wire or the connector or the trace of the dashboard lights;
    5. 10 amps popping right away is likewise indicative that the earlier short is now only a partial short (not intermittent) since it works with the 20 amps fuse. Try to feel which of the wires is heating up.

    Would appreciate another update at your convenience.

There is no warning light for catalytic converter heating uo. Brake light usually is a exclamation mark inside a circle inside parentheses. What you are describing sounds more like a temperature warning light for the cooling system.

My 2001 Intrepid seems to have a short (I think). The issue: The dash lights and shifter lights go off and on when i'm driving. i replaced the battery because it seemed to keep being drained.


t might be the dimmer switch next to the on off switch for the headlights or if you have a custom cd player or if someone has put a cd player in it recently it could be the wiring for that the wiring for the dash lights dimmer runs thru there

I have a dodge intrepid , i have to jump start it every morning , ive had the battery ,altenator, wiring checked all was good


Has anyone checked for a current draw when sitting, such as an aftermarket sound system, or anything extra you may, or someone may have installed ? Best way is a clamp on amp-meter, but can be done with a simple test light as well. If you want to try the test light method, and have one, let me know, I'll give you a quick run down on how to do it.

Nissan altima 95 tali light & dash light not working what is the cause when driving at night, when i turn the head light on my dash & tail do not come on.


First check fuses. Also if you have installed an aftermarket cd player recheck your wiring, i had this same problem about 10 yrs ago just can't remember exactly what it was.

Do yourself a big favor & buy the adapter plug for the harness, that converts your Chrysler harness to easy install of aftermarket stereo. Any autoparts or audio store should have them.

Dash light not working


The light that your having a concern with all appear to be part of the headlamp switch dimming circuit. Check the radio wiring again and make sure it was not wired into the the incorrect power wire that had to do with dash light circuit.

you have the car illumination wire hooked into the radio it will show as a ground when lights not on but power with lights on this is why fuse is blowing
