Starter sounds like its rubbing the flywheel

on a ford stater its almost impossible to rub the flex plate/ fly wheel however if the bendix gear spring is weak the stater drive can get stuck on the fly wheel and make a whining sound. if that is the case you will need to replace the starter if its a grinding sound its something totally different.

Check your fuel pressure. When you turn the key to the accessorie point you should hear the fuel pump pressurize the system. If you can't hear it that could be your problem. If you can hear it I would then check the fuel relay..usually not far from the gas tank.

New stater, stater still makes clicking sound

First you should check to make sure the engine is not locked up by turning it over manually. If you can turn the engine manually, then check your battery terminal ends to make sure you have good, clean and tight connections. Typically, a faulty electrical connection is the main culprit that will cause your situation. If you still suspect a faulty connection, try having someone turn the ignition key while you wiggle the battery cables to see if it will try to start. This should help you narrow down the problem area.

My 2000 explorer will crank on some days but if i crank it and drive it i wont start again till the next morn what could be wrong

a good area to check is the ignition stater itself. try to knock on the stater under the hood when it does not crank and see if in the process it starts. if it starts then u may need a new stater. you may still need a mechanic to check on the entire electrical system of the engine that inclueds the coils and the sparks. thanks

Truck doesn't start, knocking or rapping sound

Ok i'm a shade tree mech. so please be careful with what I'm telling you. like the what was said check battery. if ok stater will turn go to you air filter and spray w-d 40 in it I'm not a mech. so don't do this too many times. this is like pour ing gas in your carb. if it start you have a fuel prob. if it won't even turn over you have a starter prob.which taping with a hammer ( I SAID TAPPING) may loosen thing up. if stater ok still grind it may be you fly wheel has bad teeth which is a pain but can be replaced in a day if you kindof know what you doing but frist take off the inspection cover and look at the teeth which is located on eng. beside the starter. but I guess if you park it and it was ok then this is not going to be your prob. hope i helped

sounds like a bad connection! are your battery terminals tight? you should check your engine ground wire, and then check your connection to your starter.
