Question about 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 Truck
"wait to start" light flashes and won't stop. When we try to start the truck it turns over but won't start. This has never happened before
Hours of surfing and I found out it's one of my batteries or posts. Cleaned the posts and it started. Even though no battery light came on, that's what it was. Thanks for e-mailing me back.

your battery is bad. Happened to me a month ago. I checked the alternator, it was fine. I put a new battery in ,and has been trouble free. I had no warning, other than it was the factory battery and it was5 years old.

The 1st thing that MUST be done is to have the electronic engine control system computer (called the "PCM") scanned for fault codes, this gives you the starting point for diagnosis od why the warning/fault light is on. You can get the scan for fault codes done for free at any Autozone or similar discount auto parts store in your area. Aamco Transmission does the scan for free as well.

This is an all too common problem on GM vehicles. The problem is in the antitheft system. When the system loses communication (like when a part breaks or fails) the system locks out the starter because it thinks it is getting stolen. The SECURITY light that is lit up proves this problem. That is the only function of the security light. Go to this link, there is a ton of info on this problem along with some tricks to maybe get you going, along with a very good permanent solution to an ongoing problem with these security antitheft systems.
