Whatever you do, don't use a multi-splined Socket.
Use a 6 sided Socket.

For some inexplicable reason, the Sump Plug is one of the most difficult things to remove. After nearly 2 days of trying, I finaly rounded the Head. Had to take the car into SAAB to get the thing removed, and a new one (£3.40) replaced.

The whole thing was a nightmare, and copmlete cost £49+.

Yes, filter is under plastic cover, and be sure to use SYNTHETIC OIL ONLY! Good luck!

I drive a 1999 Saab 9-3 the oil light comes on when I turn a corner.. just had the oil changed.. could it be the oil pump going out? It only started giving me problems after I had the oil changed.

Hello S.Ann, Since your problem started after the oil change you need to check the engine oil level . It is possible they didn't' add enough oil to your engine or your engine could have an oil leak.

What does time for service on the sid mean

Cars that have a 'Service Soon' or similar indicator are a general reminder that your car needs its routine maintenance (like oil changes and such).

I cant seem to find dipstick to check automatic t5ransmision fluid on 2004 saab 93...?where is it located?

Look in the narrow open space between the 12 volt batty and the black plastic valve cover (which says SAAB turbo. Look straight down. It is close to the oil filter cap if you already know where that is. But farther down on the engine body. The "Automatic Transmission Dip Stick" is the short green plastic thing next the to tranmission housing. It is held in place with a bolt. It is accessible only from below when the car is on a lift

Cant find oil filter

First, it ain't easy.

I finally found the oil filter with its screw off top. It is on the right front side of the engine (left of the Battery) and just visible (with a flashlight) about two inches below the black plastic cover. Removing the cover is unnecessary and doesn't help much even if you do.

I slipped a CFA size 6 filter remover cap over the plastic top - I think that you can also use a 32mm ratchet on the hexagonal molded piece on top. In either case, I suggest applying a bit of new oil by finger around the edge of the screw on cap prior to trying to ratchet it off - either with the CFA size 6 or the 32mm fitting.

It comes off counter-clockwise and you won't have much room to work - about 3 inches of play. Once you get it started, remove the ratchet and remove by hand. Have some paper towels to wrap around the assembly when you remove it.

Discard the old inner filter and install the new one. Remember to look at the old one before you remove it so you can install the new one correctly.

Finally, by hand reinstall the filter and cover. Twist the cover on clock-wise until it is hand tight. You can use your ratchet to tighten and extra quarter or eighth turn if you like but I don't feel it is necessary.

Hardly worth doing yourself but a change at a garage with 6.3 quarts of 0W30 fully synthetic oil cost a pretty penny.

Oil change

I would contact a dealer and ask them. But also you might just use the same oil so you don't chance it....
