Sounds like it could use a good tune up. Change the spark plug, distributor cap, rotor, if it has points new points and condenser. Check the timing. Make sure the vacuum advance is working. If it has the Rochester 4 barrel carb you will need to replace the fuel filter inside the carb where the fuel inlet screws into the carb. Make sure the choke is opening up all the way after the engine warms up. A new air cleaner is essential, and if there's any money left over, replace the spark plug wires. I know it sounds like a lot, but it's all basic tune up stuff. If it hasn't been done fora long time, there should be a marked improvement in performance.
It could be your carb, or a stopped up catalytic converter, or water in your distributor cap...there are a LOT of variables that could be the problem.
