Question about 2000 Ford Windstar

1 Answer

Electrial problens My 2000Winstar started blowing fuse for the radio & speedometer& odometer. I found a plug going into the Power distribution module that has eight wires connected to it the botton two connecter where melting together so I replace the plug about three month ago now the plug is melting again and I have no odometer or speedometer or radio or cruise comtrol. I was told that I would have to replace the Jen Box or Power distribution module which would at a cost of around $1000 dollars. Is there a way to remove this box and clean it. Ford told me that the box gets gun up in side

I am a retired ford dealer electronics tech and the only way to repair this is to replace all the components that are burnt, this means a new wiring harness, the power dist. box is not sold seperate it is part of the ain harness, I know this is not good news, but if you want to keep the car then this is what has to be done to not have future problems.

Removed radio from 1995 celica and now the turn signals do not work

Start with checking you automotive fuses to see if fuses going to the turn signals were blown by accident. Also check to see that wires that plug into your fuse block or power distribution block were not inadvertently pulled out. One of the signal light wires might have been pulled out. Also check to see that your flasher module was not pulled out of it holder. The flasher module is also sometimes called the blinker module. It controls the rate of blinking. If disconnected, your lights won't blink. Somehow you have lost 12 volt power because you have likely disconnected a wire when pulling your radio.

No windows, speedometer, tach, radio runs fine

This sounds like something was wired wrong, hope there is no computer damage, the first step is to locate the fuse boxes and check all fuses first then remove the radio and check wiring.

I see this all the time. the power for night dash lights that was used to light the lights inside old radio is used on new radio and is sending power through radio and out ground wires to modules and computers, the new radio does not use the light wire, so double check all wiring even remove connector from radio if it keeps blowing a fuse. start there good day

My 1996 dodge 2500 had the wires between the speedo sensor and the speedometer get chewed up by a mouse, so i bought a new sensor and plug now the check engine light is no longer on but i still have no...

czyrnchr2, Yes, there are fuses that may be blown out. The chewed wires may have touch and blew a fuse. In the fuse box in the passenger compartment look for a fuse that feeds either the gauges or dash board. Also check the power distribution box in the engine compartment. Good luck with this.

Speedometer, odometer, and radio quit working all of a sudden. All other guages work. I have all other lights.

First thing I would look at would be the fuses under the dash on the driverside. there should be a panel with the diagram for the under dash fuses on it. check the fuses for the radio and speedometer. if the fuse it blown replace it. if it keeps blowing then you have a short somewhere between the fuse box and the corresponding equipment.

Speedometer, odometer, a/c clutch and ABS light on

Its a faulty switch/sensor on your brakes master cylinder. The switch leaks brake fluid into the wires connected to it causing a short in the circuit and blowing the fuse that controls the ABS, odometer, speedometer and cruise control. This problem can also cause a fire. A fire can occur even when the car is off. Go to this link to find out how to fix the problem. -

1996 ford f150 blows the 10amp fuse going to the speed odometer.

I'm glad you found what was causing the fuse to blow. A wiring diagram is almost a must when troubleshooting electrical. you may be able to find that sensor at a pick-a-part or wrecking yard. Just be extreamly careful, it is very easy to set off the air bag. Make sure that all power is off before working around that area.

The problen is: The speedometer goes up and then down.

If the guage section of the instrument panel is not getting a solid connection to 12V power, then this will happen. I had a similar experience with a shorted connection that caused the fuse to blow that supplied power to the speedometer. When power was restored to the speedo, it read normally.

The dash lights are on a separate circuit, so they will continue to light up even if speedo power is bad.

Accessing the guage cluster is extremely easy on thes cars. You can quickly pull it out to re-seat the electrical connections. Should you find that you need a new cluster, I believe that the odometer readings are stored in the cluster and will cause your odometer to be wrong.
