Got the same problem. It just started this week. Taking it to the VW garage on Monday to see if they can sort it.

I have the same problem - 2004 Golf TDI 1.9 DSG. With the car locked, no-one inside, the radio switches itself on. Doesn't seem to happen when the car's unlocked.

Hi, Its a possibility however since my original post I have noted that when driving with the radio turned on it will try to read a cd, fail (as there is no cd in the drive) then return to the radio. This makes me suspect that the sensor within the cd player which detects that a cd has been inserted is faulty.

I have found a temp work around, by inserting a cd in my player and leaving it in the problem is resolved. Not a permanant fix however much cheaper than a VW fee for a repaired/new radio.

I have also noted the same problem with my 54 Golf. I have been removing the fuse to avoid the battery going flat or worse still setting the car alight. I have it booked in for Friday to investigate, if I get any joy Ill let you know

Not the response I was hoping for from a dealer like VW, got to say it has however been working quite well for me. Shame VW dont seem to want to sort the problem just replace the unit.

Volkwagen UK's official response, October 6th 2008: keep a music CD in the slot. Which has to be better than paying nearly £600 to replace the radio.

Let's hope it works!

I was just working on my friends VW. Realized that when the key is inserted, power is applied to the stereo. You have the following:

Faulty switch within the main ignition switch (means you would have to replace your entire switch) or an intermittent connection within the radio's harness from its end points (connections).

These are high potentials.

Radio locked, need a code

Radio code is specific for each and every car. It is specific like anti theft code.

You can get it by providing your VIN# and registration details in authorized dealership.
Nobody else can provide you. If anybody can provide you that , then there is no meaning of security for your car.

Good day. I drive a 2007 City Golf, I recently took my car in for its service. When i received the car back the radio was saying SAFE?? What does this mean? I Bought the car at a second hand car dealer and...

the radio anti theft system is operated when, for any reason, the power is turned off/disconnected,(safe mode)in some markets, the dealers do not keep the factory code (0000) OR the code inputed by the owner...SO, if anybody turns the power off(disconnects)the radio DIES....and garages will then charge you to "repair" it.
the garage would have known this but i cant see them offering to pay for disconnecting your battery.....
the only alternative is a specialist radio shop who may be able to
short the code out..in england the company is "radioactive" and they charge £15.00 at your house.....

I have a 2004 Honda Accord LX. The radio keeps going off and on

My 2003 Accord LX does the same thing. It started about 6mo ago and it becomes more and more often. I just went outside to kick the off from inside the wheel wells and the stereo came on.

Hi, my golf boot wont lock with the key

You will need to remove the lock cylinder mechanism and take it to a locksmith to remove whatever is jammed into the key slot. While the cylinder is out, check the operation of the remote release.

Hi, problem with 2007 VW Citi Golf radio security code.

The radio is in Lock-Out mode. You only get two attempts to enter the code, then it enters Lock-Out mode.
Put the key in ignition and turn on the radio for an hour (maybe a bit more). The radio should reset itself after about an hour and then you can re enter the code.

Lots of lights etc not working on my bora

Its the dorr lock mechanism! There are contacts inside the lock along with a microswitch! Soldering joints etc crack and cause bad connections! It can be fixed or you can replace the lock
