Your brake master cylinder is low on fluid. There is a sensor that measures the level of the brake fluid. As the brakes wear, the fluid level drops proportionally.

I have a 2010 Kia spectra and when it's cold out I turn my car off an the tail lights stay on this leads to a dead battery in the morning not fun Please help!!!!

It could be the stoplights that stay on. There us a switch witch is released and activates when depressing the brake pedal. Maybe you brake pedal does not return to it's default position which disengages the switch. Spring might be loose or broken.

Hand break light coming on with out using hand break

The cable tightness is loose therefore causing the light to come on while driving, tighten or replace the eb cable hope that helps or you need to push in the button on it hold the button and pull it back as far as you can. let go then push button pull back farther and release, this should tighten the tension.

What if the 2000 dodge caravan break light comes on

If the BRAKE light comes on, and the parking brake is not engaged, it indicates a potentially very dangerous condition, where hydraulic pressure is lost in the system. IT IS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE YOUR VEHICLE IF THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES, EVEN "ONCE IN AWHILE," WHEN DEPRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL.

IT IS ALSO NOT SAFE TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE IF THE BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATES WITH THE PARKING BRAKE DISENGAGED.

The cause for the issue may be:
  1. Bad master cylinder (most likely);
  2. Contaminated brake fluid (if the wrong kind of fluid was used);
  3. Bad wheel cylinder(s);
  4. Damaged brake line;
  5. Excessive wear on brake parts (such as pads and rotors);
  6. Defective brake pressure sensor.

My ABS light and emergency brake light comes on everytime I start my Ford Windstar, and they stay on when I'm driving around, even though my brakes are not on. Anyone have any idea what this means?

I think it means the Antilock Brake System is disengaged. So, a code has been stored in the abs computer. Standard obd tester cannot check these codes, must visit your dealer or some autoshop with ABS reader.

According with the service manual: During starting the RED brake light should briefly come on and then go off. If the RED light stays on, it indicates a problem in the main braking system, such as a low fluid level, or the parking brake is still on.

Hope helps (remember to rate and comment this).

How do i check the emergency brake light. every time i disengage the EB the light stays on even though the brake is disengaged

Either the peddle is not going up fully to meet the switch that turns the light off or the switch may be loose or faulty

Abs light stays on/strong smell

Check the E-Brake, make sure that the ebrake is not engaged and that it is fully disengaging. If that is not the problem, then there is something with the brake calipers or rotors that are not allowing your brakes to fully disengage

I.P Brake light is staying on.. what does this mean

Hi,

Offhand, the brake light warning on most dashboards would indicate that the hand/emergency brake is engaged. If even when the hand/emergency brake is disengaged or is in normal position and the light is still lit, it could indicate that:
  • the brake fluid in the reservoir is below minimum level;
  • and possibly the brake shoes/pads need replacement.
Just a start, do postback how things turned up or should you need additional information. Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa.
