For any one dealing with this type of problems on your ford, hyundai, or any other cars, I would first recommend that you follow this steps one at the time before you think about rebuilding, or replacing your ****** untill you find the problem as any of this can cause the gear error, slipping and codes. 1- check your ****** oil level and add if low. 2-Check all your trans wire connectors and cables around it, unplug and re-plug them. 3-Replace your gear, speed and oil cooling sensors attached to it (you can try some used ones from the junk yards) make sure they look clean and not rusted or too old. and immediately after you replace them reset the ECU- Engine Computer Unit by disconnecting your positive battery cable for 20 to 30 min then reconnect and drive on street only. not freeway for two days and see if you notice any change. it is very important that you reset the ecu to erase the error codes from the computer before you derive it with the new sensors. If this does not help then you have internal failure, maybe bad selenoids, bad clutch torque converter, bad valve body parts, and even broken gears deep inside.

Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio Our emissions expert has put together the following information about the P0732 fault code. We have also included diagnostic procedures you can take to your repair shop if the mechanic is having difficulty analyzing the code.
OBD II Fault Code
  • OBD II P0732
Fault Code Definition
  • Gear 2 Incorrect Ratio
What does this mean?
The purpose of the automatic transmission is to match the engine's optimum power and torque characteristics to the driver's desired rate of acceleration and speed by auto-selecting different gear ratios or 'speeds' to power the wheels.
Code P0732 When the code P0732 is set in the Powertrain Computer, it means that the Powertrain Computer or PCM is seeing a greater than a specified RPM difference between the rotational speed of the Input RPM Sensor and the Transmission Output RPM Sensor when the vehicle is in 2nd gear. This can occur during shifting or when driving at steady speeds. It often implies that the transmission is slipping.
Symptoms
  • Check Engine Light will illuminate
  • Vehicle will not shift properly
  • Decrease in fuel economy
  • In unusual cases, there are no adverse conditions noticed by the driver
  • In some cases, there may be performance problems, such as dying when coming to a stop after driving on the freeway and/or misfire-like symptoms
Common Problems That Trigger the P0732 Code
  • Defective 2nd gear shift solenoid
  • Defective 2nd gear related gear set or clutch pack
  • Defective Engine Coolant Temperature Sensor
  • Defective Valve Body
  • Dirty transmission fluid that restricts the hydraulic passages
Common Misdiagnoses
  • Engine Misfire problem
  • Internal Transmission problem
  • Driveline problem
Polluting Gases Expelled
  • HCs (Hydrocarbons): Unburned droplets of raw fuel that smell, affect breathing, and contribute to smog
  • CO (Carbon Monoxide): Partially burned fuel that is an odorless and deadly poisonous gas
  • NOX (Oxides of Nitrogen): One of the two ingredients that, when exposed to sunlight, cause smog
P0732 Diagnostic Theory for Shops and Technicians
When diagnosing a P0732 code, it is important to record the freeze frame information and then to duplicate the code setting conditions with a test drive. Pay close attention to the engine load, throttle position, RPM, and road speed because a P0732 can be difficult to detect.
One should monitor the RPM input speed and compare that to output speed RPM on a smooth, flat surface after the vehicle is warmed up and the fuel system is in a closed loop. Monitor how the 2nd gear solenoid configuration responds to an increased amount of throttle. The 2nd gear related solenoid should stay in 2nd gear and the transmission should NOT slip.

PO766

Possible causes- Low transmission fluid level
- Dirty transmission fluid
- Faulty shift solenoid D valve
- Shift solenoid D valve harness or connectors
- Shift solenoid D valve circuit is open or shorted
Tech notesWhen the a transmission solenoid is stuck off, in most cases the problem is not the electrical part of the solenoid; the problem is foreign material obstructing the mechanical function of the solenoid or the flow of the fluid through the transmission valve body. If the transmission fluid is very dirty, it is recommend changing the transmission fluid and if possible removing the transmission pan for further diagnosis. Excessive debris or metal particles on the transmission pan could be an indication that there is a transmission mechanical failure and that the transmission will need to be rebuilt or replaced. When is the code detected? The P0766 code is detected when the ECM has detected a mechanical fault with the solenoid energized, valve stuck off P0766 Description Shift solenoid valve D is turned ON or OFF by the Transmission Control Module (TCM) in response to signals sent from the park/neutral position (PNP) switch, vehicle speed and Engine Control Module (ECM) (throttle opening). Gears will then be shifted to the optimum position.

P0734 Hyundai accent 2003

code p 0734 refers to gear 4--incorrect ratio===causes --wiring---TR sensor/ switch---shift solenoids---transmission mechanical fault
I would check the operation of the transmission ration sensor/switch first as that is the most likely place that the fault is
check engine lights are not solely for the engine but report on transmission problems as well
a transmission mechanical fault is the absolute last that you should consider because the transmission will revert to normal operations until it selects gear 4 which indicates sensor or solenoid problem

Please, can you help me fix cods problems p0732,p0734 on my 2006 Mazda Tribute

P0732 - Improper Ratio for Second Gear.
P0734 - Improper Ratio for Fourth Gear.

This diagnosis monitors actual gear position by checking the torque converter slip ratio calculated by TCM as follows:

Torque converter slip ratio = A x C/B A: Output shaft revolution signal from revolution sensor B: Engine speed signal from ECM C: Gear ratio determined as gear position which TCM supposes

If the actual gear position is higher than the position (2nd and 4th) supposed by TCM, the slip ratio will be more than normal. In case the ratio exceeds the specified value, TCM judges this diagnosis malfunction.

This malfunction will be caused when shift solenoid valve B is stuck open.

Gear positions supposed by TCM are as follows. In case of gear position with no malfunctions: 1 , 2, 3 and 4 positions In case of gear position with shift solenoid valve B stuck open: 4* , 3, 3 and 4 positions to each gear position above.

Symptoms: Engine Light ON (or Service Engine Soon Warning Light)

Diagnostic trouble code A/T 2ND GR FNCTN with CONSULT-II or P0732 without CONSULT-II is detected when A/T cannot be shifted to the 2nd gear position even if electrical circuit is good.

Possible Causes:
- Shift solenoid valve B
- Each clutch
- Hydraulic control circuit

Transmission Problem - Ford Escape 2006

P0732 and P0734 indicates gear ratio errors in 2nd and 4th gears, basically no 2nd and 4th gear. The one thing 2nd and 4th gear has in common is the band, the band is known to break, this is a common failure with this transmission and happens on a regular basis.

You need to remove the transmission to repair it.
