Question about 1994 Volvo 960

AC Blower Not Working

Generally, the AC blower in my 1994 Volvo 960 is not working. It seems to be a loose electrical connection. I say this because, sometimes, when I have to make an abrupt stop, the blower kicks in as if inertia has caused it to push forward and make some electrical contact (as best I can figure). After the car is fully stopped and inertia is no longer a factor, the blower stops again.

Has anybody else experienced this? I just want to have as much information as possible, before I go pulling out the glovebox to access the blower.

After some years, the the filters (made of foam) in the HVAC system can become dry-rotted. Debris from the rotted foam, as well as dust, can accumulate in various places within the system. Unfortunately, the motor housing of the blower is one place in which the dust and debris accumulate very well. To fix the problem, you have to remove the cover from the blower, and vacuum clean it. The blower is behind the glove box, on the lower right side.

A word of caution: The fan cage (which looks like a gerbil wheel) can become brittle, over the years. After cleaning out the blower motor, the blower will be able to freely spin at full speed, again. This may be too much for an old brittle fan. If your old blower can't take the force of spinning at full speed, you will hear it break apart inside its chamber. I discovered this, the hard way. After cleaning the dust and debris from my Volvo's blower motor, the blower spun at full speed and the fan broke apart. So, I had to buy and install a whole new blower.

My blower went out that runs the heat and ac. I had it fixed 6 months ago. Could it be a vacuum hose connection?

No that would only be electric that runs the blower motor. If I were you I'd check out the blower resistor and connector at the resistor. They draw alot of amps througth them, and they burn out over time.
Well let me recant my first statment. If the blower is working but is not coming out of the right vents then that could be vaccume. But the way you are saying it, I think you mean that the blower is not working at all.
And also you may have gotten a cheap blower that has died again?

A/c blower not working

A simple solution to the problem would be to recharge the system with a couple cans of R134A from an auto parts store. If you compressor is constantlyt clicking on and off this is a good sign that the system is low on freon. Also if you are all thumbs when it comes to cars most shops should do a system charge for $100 or less.

AC blower fan

What has most likely happened is the blower fan stem is loose on the fan motor shaft. The hard part is getting access to the motor and fan. Usually it is under the dash on the passenger side. It is an easy fix once have access.
