Hi...I have a 1997 ford taurus....My cars service engine soon light was flashing so i took it to advanced auto parts where they scanned it...the problem is "cylinder 2 misfire detected"
My dad would like to know how to correct this problem himself and what needs to be purchased.

You are mis fireing on cyl 1 and 3 if you replaced plugs and wires and coil this is going to be a fuel injector issue or valve issue. See if you can swap the injectors with known good cyl. and see if it changes. Or have a shop do a fuel injector service on it to see if it helps. It may be to late for the fuel injector service.
I may not have the answer but I had a similar problem with my 97 taurus, for me the problem was the Oxygen sensors they needed to be replaced. If you havent done that maybe try it or ask a mechanic if that might be the problem
